I was poking around at STATS INC. and found some interesting (to me) statistics for us last year.

They aren’t all surprising, though some surprised me a little, but I’m mostly showing the ones I found interesting or the ones where we were extremely good or bad:

1. Miami was 3rd in the NFL in converting on third and short when they ran...

…but they were second from last in the NFL in converting 3rd downs when they passed.

2. We were much, much better on rushes 11-20 then we were in rushes 1-10.

We were ranked 16th in YPC on the first ten rushes, 3rd in the NFL in YPC on rushes 11-20, and 6th in the NFL on carries 21+. This trend was true of both Ricky and Ronnie.

3. Percentage of passes complete we were 32nd. Dead last with 52.3 %.

(1st was the Colts with an astonishing 67.4% - quite a margin)

4. In percentage of 1st downs on passing attempts we were 28th.

(again #1 was the Colts… they threw for first downs on 40% of all their pass plays. We were at 27%.)

5. We were 29th in “sacked when passingâ€Â, meaning we were 4th best, at 26. Houston, of course, was the worst at 68. 68, sheesh.

6. We completed 38.5% of passes inside the opp 10 and 43.4% inside opp 20. Ranked 27th in both.

7. We were 6th best in opponents YPA at 5.53. That one surprised me, considering our secondary. (we had a lot of yards thrown against us, but not a lot per attempt)

The most exciting part of those stats is where we were weakest last year is what Daunte is best at (completion percentage) which makes me "get my roll on!"

Only confirms my year long case that Gus needed to go (Thank you God for C-Pep!)

Yeah, me too.

I also thought the stuff about the secondary was encouraging.

And the trend says that if we DO lose Ricky Williams, that Ronnie Brown's stats per carry will improve by carrying it more. That's nice to know.

what website u get that from

The numbers are from stats, inc. But i got them by way of the Washington Post, which just links to the Stats inc. numbers.

Always good to have some more stats, thanks. Number 7 suprised me a little too.

I am surprised we were dead last in completion percentage, but I know Gus had a really poor passer rating. I know we can pick this up big time with CP.
I wonder how many drops by McMike and Chambers lowered Gus's completion percentage over the year?.....I am sure that played a huge part.

Thanks all. I'm to post a follow up with individual player stats that interested me in a few.

In other words teams aren't afraid of Miami passing so the early script that all teams do is geared towards stopping the run and it takes Ricky/Ronnie about 10 carries to break it down.

Seriously pony make a note of this specific number and try to dig up the numbers after Culpepper starts most of a year. I bet that initial run rank will improve a lot especially as the O-Line gets improved. Culpepper makes it hard to stack against the run.

That's a very good point.
