I know everyone's thinking about the draft but our offseason started back in december and it's been a great one imo.
First things first....we got rid of the old GM and HC and most of the staff and we hired the right guy to be in charge,Bill Parcells...he in turn hired the right GM,an up and coming Jeff Ireland who is all business and is here to built a winner base on what they know it takes,not what the media or the fans think.....they hired the right HC too in Tony Sparano...this is a coach that will get down and dirty with the players and they will love him and respct him.
The first thing we needed to do was fix the special teams which were horrible last year.We went and got a bunch of guys that were great special team players last year on the teams they played for.Now Ginn will have some help and his returns should be better but what's more,our cover teams should be better too.
The defence needed help to stop the run as every team ran on us last year.We added Ferguson,Starks,Lagnford,Merling(who might play outside)Torbor and Anderson to go along Holliday,Roth,Wright,Porter and JT...this team has gotten bigger up front and is going to stop the run which in turn will help our pass defence....look for guys like Abe Wright,Roth and Mosses to get a chance to play outside and rush the passer...JT and Proter will also benefit from the big guys up front stopping the run.
On offence we had to build the o-line.We've been waiting for years to do it.First we added Smily and now we got Long,Murphy and Thomas...we've gotten bigger and meanner as an o-line....3 guys are gona from last year.Now our o-line could be this.
Long-Murphy-Satele-Smily-Carey.
That's gonna help our run game and as we run the football our passing game will get easier.Speaking of the run game,we help ourselfs there too.I love Ronnie and Ricky but they're both coming back from injuries and look at what happen last season.So now we draft 2 RB's that are big and strong and had great seasons last year in college.Either Parmele or Hilliard will be the 3rd back but both should make the tyeam as I see Cobbs not making it...we have depth at RB now as well at the o-line spot.
Many here wanted a WR on draft day but we did get Wilford this year to go along with Ginn...Hagan's still in the mix but this is his last chance to catch on so to speak.
Now the most important position on the team.QB. I love Beck and feels he should get a real chance to start but I also like the Henne pick.Competition is good and at last we have 2 young guys with a real chance to be good QB's for us,not to mention a veteran to add to that competition.
Overall we've gotten great special team players,more depth on the secondary,the d-line,the o-line,RB and QB.
I Know we can still use another top WR and a corner but when you consider that last year we went 1-15 this teams is a lot bigger and better with more talent everywhere.I think is a team that will be better prepare and better coached.Is a team with a new structure and a bright future.Imo, This has been our best offseason in a long long time.
The Dolphins are back and on track to be one of the elite teams in the NFL again.
