And when he eats teriyaki chicken now, he limits himself to one piece instead of the two or three he's rather devour. It's a major reason why the Dolphins' 340-pound backup nose tackle — who has shed 12 pounds since the end of last season — could even attempt to try to cover running back Ronnie Brown 35 yards downfield in the first scrimmage of the preseason.

Good to hear he's finally coming around. This is just what we needed at about this time with Big Ferg getting pretty old, and being very, very thin at the NT position.

We shall see. Definately have very little respect for a defender that had one more tackle than suspenssion last year

I think this is a pretty good indication of how much Soliai has improved this season because I don't think people even realize the difference in the run defense when he replaced Ferguson from time to time during the Panthers' game.
"When he first got here he was kind of iffy," defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers said. "We weren't sure he'd buy into the program. Now he's buying into the program and wants to be a contributor on this team."

That's important for the Dolphins, since the guy Soliai plays behind, Jason Ferguson, is the team's second oldest player. Ferguson, who will turn 35 on Nov. 28, has been limited to a play count this preseason.

"We rotated against Carolina to get him against [Ryan] Kalil with [Jason] Ferguson," Sparano said of Soliai. "Last week, we had him in there right after the first quarter. We are starting to develop a pretty good play count for him."

I would hypothesize its not the weight that makes the difference for the coaches. If Soliai would be carrying those 12 pounds and playing as well as he has this preseason, they'd probably look passed it. Its the dedication to lose the weight that makes the difference, the very dedication he's probably using to step up his game. I promise you that if the improvement on his weight would not have come with improvement on the field, the coaches would not be so "trusting".

I definitely didn't pay attention to when he was in. Was it much better?

I would say there was little to no drop off when Soliai replaced Ferguson from time to time during the Panthers game.

That's very good. Honestly, we can't really afford to have anything less than that right now.

That's good that he's improving but I still find it odd/amusing they continue to mention him covering Ronnie Brown on *ONE* freaking play during a scrimmage.

Because it was the hardest thing he's ever done in his whole life?
