I'm a season ticket holder and long time Lions fan. I come to this board because I am also a Fin fan as well. I thought I would take the time to share my views on Big Daddy.

I am a little surprised the board is not talking more about this. Big Daddy can be a dominating DT and at times plays at a probowl caliber. He can stuff the run as well as any DT in the league and he is good at getting presure on a QB. He is huge and much faster then you think for a big guy.

His negetives are his age and laziness... Big Daddy became a hold out in Det when Marinelli took over as HC... It was believed he would hold out until sometime in mid camp... To everyone surprise the Lions cut hm.. Big Daddy does not want to put in a full days practice nor does he feel he needs a full camp... that is why he signed so late with Miami... he does not want to put in the work.

In Detroit the Lions played him sparingly, spelling him often... he was more of a situations DT... this worked well and the Lions got the most out of him .. he played his best when the Lions did this... I see Miami using him much in the same way.

Despite his negetives Big Daddy is still a dominating player and if he would put forth a 110% he would probably make the probowl.. but he wont and Miami will instead get a solid situational DT who can play as well as any DT in the game ... if he wants to that is.

I dont think thats a surprise to us .We have ben hearing about this for some time now but thanks for taking the time to gives us your opinion.

Saban will rotate him depending on down and situationThere are no illusions about making him a full time starter.

IMO he is just one year plan anyway.

I wouldnt be so certain about that. I havnt seen the specifics of the deal but it was for three years, so you have to assume provided its not massively backloaded that he will be here for a while. And I dont know about full time starter, but the big daddy has a real shot at being named the starting NT if he decides to play. There is no questioning the disparity in talent between Wilkinson and Traylor.

I would be concerned with the laziness but that seems to be the consensus feeling among most of the NFL vets i.e. Clinton Portis. As long as he's ready to play at the start of the season is all I care about.

Seems to me that training camp and preseason is basically just to prepare the rooks and young players for the season and to hopefully find some diamonds in the rough that weren't high draft picks or play for college powerhouses like USC or Florida State.

I think Saban could kick that laziness right out of "Big Daddy". He is a great addition and we now have solid depth at that position. Thanx for the insider look.

Regardless of who starts, I think Big Daddy and Traylor will probably get about the same amount of playing time. Its great for us because we get one guy in dominating the middle while the other one is on the sideline eating cheeseburgers to refuel for when they get back in. Traylor really struggled last year trying to get those burgers down before he had to get back in the game.

If we get that from him I'll be thrilled. I also believe he's a great addition lets hope we use him in a rotation to keep him fresh while players like Vickerson and Evans get some time to learn the position.

He was a monster at Ohio State. He ios a good pick up for the fins

he took plays off at ohio state. but he was such a monster when he wanted to be he could take over the game. Maybe saban can motivate him. If so he would dominate.

I think he was signed to a 3 year deal because he'd like to finish his career in Miami and I think I've read that Traylor plans on retiring after the season. So, if Traylor is gone after this season we still have a veteran NT until a guy like Fred Evans is ready to take over. Just my opinion.

Not sure I can agree with you there. Traylor played awesome for us last year. The difference between our short yardage run defense when we was in compared to the games he missed was very telling. I think our defense finished the league with the lowest conversion rate of 3rd and 1, in the league. I know at one point we were leading. When Traylor was not in however teams had no trouble at all. It will be nice to get another clone, which is what I see in Big Daddy.

It sounds like this was a good pickup for us then. I believe he will be part of a rotation so he will not have to worry about gatting to worn out.

Judging by many many comments by TV & radio analysts, and players. There isnt many that feel that a full training camp anf 4 preseason games are necessary.

That's almost word for word what I figured, thanks for the wrap-up. :D
