1. Recruited as a QB and redshirted his freshman year 2007.

2. 2008, Stephen McGee was Ags' starting QB. He was #1 QB recruit in state of Texas in 2004 class (and one of top in nation) and drafted 4th round by Cowboys after his 2008 season. Jerrod Johnson was a terrific talented back-up and took over for McGee early in 2008 due to McGee injury.

3. Tannehill started as RS Freshman WR and set school reception records for a Freshman and Sophomore. He had 12 receptions for 210yds against KState, and ended college career with over 14yd avg.

4. As a sophomore, Tannehill backed up Johnson. Johnson ended up #1 QB in A&M history with 8000 passing yards. His 2009 season ended against the # 3 defense in country (Longhorns) where he went 26/33 for 340 yards and 4 TDs. Finshed year wth 3500 passing, 500 rushing, and 30TD/8INT. But injured his shoulder at end of yr.

5. Tannehill and JJ were in a tight battle for starting job in 2010, and was obvious JJ had lost some throwing power and motion was different, but Sherman stuck with him for half a season (with much angst from the fan base). JJ is a GREAT person and it was obvious Sherman had a little too much loyalty to him in his Sr. season. RT was not used as receiver as a Jr. except in critical situations. RT was a really intelligent WR with great hands and always seemed to make effortless "relaxed" catches.

6. Tannehill finally replaced JJ in the 2nd half of the 6th game and went 12/16 for 155 yds and 3TDs. He made his 1st start in the 7th game (Tx Tech) with 4 TDs and set a school record for passing yds (450).

7. Sr. season was a disappointment for team ranked 10th preseason- finished 7-6 (bowl win over Northwestern) after blowing large first half leads and losing 3 games by 7pts total, and two others in overtime. RT did throw for 3750 yds and ran for 350 with 5.3ypc. Most fans put blame on Sherman and his play calling and lack of killer instinct (right or wrong).

Here is video of RT as receiver- not that great of tape- he was more impressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-ZhBS5f5j4

Sincere thx Lonestar. I knew that Tannehill was a WR, but I didn't know how good he was in the role (looks far too skinny). Your other comments about Sherman's loyalty to Jerrod Johnson, bad play calling and lack of killer instinct seem to be pretty relevant, too. It will be interesting to see if Joe Philbin has the same loyalty to Sherman at the end of the season, when he knows that further improvement is needed. These are high character guys but at some point you have to demand better results.

Thx, good info. It's so strange seeing our starting QB running routes and catching passes.

That's a nice video, thanks for sharing. A few things I noticed.....one, he just has a ton of athletic ability. If the Dolphins ever had another running back they felt confident enough throwing the ball (like Ronnie Brown), they could throw in a nice trick play, like a pass back to Tannehill, to confuse defenses. Another thing.....the effort he puts forth on some of those catches is pretty impressive. Wallace could learn a thing or two. Also, whenever he makes a big play, the first thing he looks to do is toss the ball to the ref. None of the showboating that you so often see. I've seen running backs celebrate more after a 5-yard gain.

I think his time as a receiver helps him now take hits and keep going. He takes some vicious hits and it never seems to faze him. Good trait to have in that role

He took a few shots in that video and popped right back up. Glad to see that toughness carried over into the NFL. Thanks OP.
