Since it’s sooooo slooooow this time of year I wanted to look ahead to next year’s free agents, especially in the areas I think we need the most help. I know it’s early and the season has not started yet but there is nothing else going on and I am bored. First I listed our likely starters as well as key backup contributors.

QB: TrentGreen
HB: Ronnie Brown, L. Booker
FB: Schlesinger, Mauia
WR: Chris Chambers, Ginn
WR: Marty Booker, Hagan
TE: David Martin, Justin Peele
LT: Carey
LG: Leiwenski/ Mormino
C: Satele
RG: Rex Hadnot
RT: L.J Shelton

DE: Matt Roth
NT: Keith Traylor, Paul Soliai
DT: Vonnie Holliday, Rodrique Wright
OE: Jason Taylor
MLB: Zach Thomas
WLB: Channing Crowder
SLB: Joey Porter
CB: Will Allen, Andre Goodman
SS: Yeremiah Bell
FS: Renaldo Hill
CB: Travis Daniels, Jason Allen

As for our o-line I’m comfortable with Carey at LT, Satele at C, and Rex at RG. However, I am not too confident about our RT and LG (the addition of Pete Kendall would solidify the LG position). I am happy with our skills position(qb, rb, fb, wr) except for TE. TE is a major weakness, barring a healthy and productive year from David Martin,(which I’m really hoping for). I am ultra confident in our front 7, and I don’t think we are as old as everyone says we are up front, especially with Soliai and Rod Wright being groomed to start eventually with Roth on the DL. Out of our LB’s only Channing is under 30, so I wouldn’t mind us getting a young LB in free agency although Zach and JT do not appear to be slowing down. In our secondary I feel we need one more quality S and/or a CB. Also remember that Yeremiah will be a free agent after this year.

So here are some options that caught my eye for next year’s free agency at RT, LG, TE, LB, CB, & S. I know some of the players we have a very slim chance at getting but it would be nice if it happened.

This is the best site I found for free agents although I am not sure how accurate it is... If anyone else knows of any other free agents please list them.

RT: Max Starks, Sean Locklear,
LG: Alan Faneca, Ryan Lilja, Montrae Holland
TE: Ben Troupe, Chris Cooley, L.J. Smith
LB: Boss Bailey, Karlos Dansby, Terrell Suggs,
CB: Charles Tillman, Quentin Jammer, Drayton Florence, Jordan Babineaux
S: Troy Polamalu, Yeremiah Bell, Mike Doss, Gibril Wilson, Eugene Wilson, Jordan Babineaux

Nice post man!
It would be nice to get Faneca and Snag Either Polamalu or Doss.

When Culpepper leaves, we will get some pretty big cap relief this year since it would be a post June 1st cut. Mueller needs to use that money to extend the contracts of Bell and Hadnot(also entering he last year of his contract).

thanks FiveStar

damn i didn't even know that rex is in his last year, we def. need him back

Players who's contracts expire after 2007:

Rex Hadnot
Dan Stevenson
Chris Liwienski
Mike Rosenthal
Johnathan Ingram
Kelly Campbell
Az-Zahir Hakim
Patrick Cobbs
Kyle Eckel
Jesse Chatman
Ray Perkins
Tim Massaquoi
Chase Page
Kevin Vickerson
Derrick Pope
Donnie Spragan
Jim Maxwell
Robert McCune
Michael Lehan
Derrick Johnson
Shirdonya Mitchell
Yeremiah Bell
Travares Tillman
John Denney

I highlighted the 4 I really think we need to definitely re-sign.

i would like to keep bell and get polamu faneca would also be nice to have

It looks most likely that Feneca will be out in Pitt next year. So i am almost positive that Troy will be the number 1 priority for pitt next off season meaning i will bet u money Troy P is in a steelers uniform next year.

I honestly believe that Martin if healthy will get the job done this year at te. But if he flops i would like to snag L.J. Smith who would be about 28 years old after next year, he can really work up the middle of the field.

I think a team need is a shut down corner to solidify our defense as best in the nfl. I really dont see one out thier in free agency so maybe we look to trade or in the draft.

But the #1 need on our team is a superstar o-line men and Alan Feneca would certainly be that. He would be roughly 31 years old but he still has a bunch left in the tank in my opinion.

Pretty good list you have compiled but I'm not sure if any of the CB outside of Quentin Jammer would be an upgrade over what we already have.
According to Chargers Football Xtra
http://cfx.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/cfx/2007/04/report_card_defensive_backs_1.html
Always a physical presence on the field, Quentin now shows greater ball awareness and anticipation. He has continued to steadily improve, which is great news considering he's signed through the 2012 season.

I also don't like what they said about Drayton Florence
Florence is a gifted athlete who hasn't yet assimilated the mental part of NFL football. He defenses his share of passes and is a solid tackler, but makes costly mistakes that-- evidently-- are the result of a loss of focus. His head-butting infraction in the playoff game against New England is a painful example.

Drayton is often positioned correctly for the interception, but as often as not has the ball carom off his hands, squandering the opportunity for a momentum shifting turnover. With better discipline and concentration, he could be one of the better corners in the league.

Charles Tillman may also be out of our reach financially.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2916732
Although the Bears signed Vasher to a five-year deal through 2012 that included $14 million in guaranteed money, and are believed to have proposed a similar extension to Tillman, who is entering the final year of his contract,
and Jordan Babineaux...well
http://thesportsmaster8000.wordpres...ineaux-confused-thinks-hes-good-or-something/
Unfortunately for Babineaux, most teams in the NFL saw how he and safety Michael Boulware were consistently out of position and consistently getting beat for big plays throughout the season

I just want Bell to get an extension during the season kind of like McMichael a few years back. We need to make sure he never hits the market because if he does, he could get a much more lucrative deal elsewhere. We could still get a very good player for fairly cheap.

We won't get Faneca because when he was first angry the Cardinals tried to put in a trade offer for him(of course it was refused) but you can bet he'll be a Cardinal to reunite with Grimm and Whisenhunt.
