OK, so what would you guys say was the biggest problem from last year?

The QBs?
RBs?
Oline?
WRs?
FBs and TEs?
Dline?
LBs?
Secondary?
Offensive Coaching?
Defensive Coaching?

I will go ahead and illiminate it to the obvious problems.

QB, Oline, Secondary, WRs, and Offensive Coaching.

It's clear that the majority of these problems are on the offensive side of the ball. Now the secondary could of put the 2nd Jets game away with an easy interception. They could of certainly helped in that Steelers game, but beyond that they just contributed to losses and were far from the sole reason. A problem, however, nonetheless.

The oline was by far the biggest problem. This area hindered other players such as the RBs, the Qb, and the WRs. The problems in this area tricked down throughout the whole offense.

With that being said, the QB play was horrible. All 3 of them.

The WRs dropping balls left and right didn't help the QBs either.

And last but certainly not least, the offensive coaching. MM was the most pathetic O coordinator I have ever seen. The guy is a moron. He tried to fit square blocks in circle holes and circle blocks in square holes. When we were on the 1 yard line, he felt the need to do the following:
(best told through the voice of an announcer)
"It's first and one on the goal line. Harrington back to pass, oh wait, he hands off to Ronnie Brown who is....apparently running a reverse to Marty Booker...Uh, Marty Booker back to pass,...Interception! Oh no. This will pretty much do it for Miami."

OK, you get it. We had a bad season. So I rank the problems accordingly.

Offensive Coaching
Oline
QB
Secondary
WRs

Now lets look at the future.

Did we fix all these problems? Obviously not. But lets look at what we have improved upon.

Offensive Coaching? This will be the most improved area of the team. Simply running Ronnie another 30% or more will guarantee us a few wins. Brown is a great RB who needs the ball more. It's not his fault that MM never gave him the ball. Having Cameron take over for playcalling should help Ronnie out tremendously. This, of course, will put less pressure on our QB.

Offensive Line? Umm, I don't know how improved this unit will be. Having Satele at C and moving Hadnot to RG is a great move. Moving Vernon to LT should also work out well. I believe Miami is now set at LT, C, and RG. 3 very important postions. However, LG and RT are serious concerns. With that being said though, the line can only improve from last year's horrible performance.

QB? This is a wild card. I beleive we are hands down improved IF THE OLINE PLAYS WELL. They don't have to play great, just good. Trent Green should be much better than anything we've had since Marino. But didn't we say that about Pepper too?

Secondary? Having Bell start all year will be huge. Bell will get burnt from time to time, but he is a play maker. Something this unit severly needs. The lack of Miami's turnovers certainly hurt them. We were what 3rd in the league in sacks. And what 31st in interceptions? That's inexcusable. And IMO, this unit would be horrible without the front 7's dominance. Hopefully, Jason Allen can man down at least the nickel position. If not, we cannot help but start whispering the B word. If J Allen can do that, and Bell continues to make plays, we'll be just good enough in the secondary to win games.

WRs? We have definitely improved in this area. One of the biggest problems on offense last year was a lack of speed. Ginn can only help in this area. If he stays as the team's 4th receiver though, he will not make enough of an impact to warrant that 9th pick (at least as far as this year is concerned). With Chambers, Booker, a more experienced Hagan, and Ginn back there, we will definitely be a better unit. Not mentioning a better QB will be throwing the ball to them. Expect Miami's WRs to play much better this year.

Bottom Line: Improvement Grades:

O Coaching? A
Oline? C
QB? Incomplete (With Green's age it depends greatly on oline)
Secondary? D
WRs? A

So with these new grades, I expect Miami to be a better team. How much better? It depends so greatly on that oline.

Good analysis.
I'm very excited about the upcoming season and can't wait for it to start.
Let's hope all the 'upgrades' turn out to be good ones!

Good post...I think our biggest problems were both QB and OL in no particular order - Then secondary, then WR's. I hope we took care of them the offense this offseason but we wont see until the regular season. It would have been nice to draft a good corner but we still have to see how Allen adjusts. The DL will hel the secondary tremendously though

The whole offense in general and the secondary. Saban screwed up the secondary big time because he thinks he can throw crap in there and make diamonds out of them. Will Allen is ok, Daniels is young, Goodman is servicible. Tillman sucks, Bell makes plays but gives them up. Jason Allen didn't do **** last year so the jury is still out on him.

I agree with the majority of your post. The improvement in the o-line will not be known until we get into the season. On paper it looks good, but there are some major ????? Carey at LT? Shelton at RT instead of RG? Rookie or Rookies on the line? Hopefully most of those questions will be answered with a glowing report card by the bye week.

I agree with a previous article and thread that talked about the Dolphins being the wildest of wild cards this year.

There are so many variables and possibilities that could really change this teams performance over the year.

Just consider a few of the positive ones, and I'm only going to list a few positive ones because we have seen the negative ones actually play out the last several years.

Green could return to pro-bowl form and pass for over 4000 yards.

Ronnie Brown could have a breakout year and be one of the leagur leaders in rushing.

Martin could stay healthy and turn out to be a good TE.

Satele indeed turns out to be a rookie in name only.

One or two of the other young offensive lineman step up and fill the LG position and beat out Shelton at RT. Alabi,Wilson,Esara,Parker,Mormino.

Ginn makes half the plays some people think he is going to make.

Chambers focuses on his game instead of tearing up the streets at 2:30 in the morning.

Joey Porter playing next to Zach and Jason is freed up to kick *** all year long.

Jason Allen has a breakout season and leads the team in interceptions.

A healthy Travis Daniels plays better than his rookie year.

Our safeties stay healthy all year.

Channing Crowder continues to improve.

Traylor plays every down and starts to wear a bright red cape.

The Wright boys play like some are saying they are capable of.

If these things happen the only weak thing on the Dolphins this year will be Feely's kickoffs.

I like that - very cool possibilities. One factor though is that there is only one Wright boy left (Rodrique). Manny got himself booted earlier this year I'm pretty sure.

One question I have if anyone knows... I read somewhere right after the draft that we may use Fields to do the kickoffs, because he can boot them farther than Feely. Can anyone confirm this after seeing them practice in mini-camp?

Your forgetting Abraham Wright who may turn out to be the steal of 07 draft.

At least we don't have to worry about him getting busted for drugs. He walks with God.

Feilds is a kickoff guy but had some trouble keeping them all in play.

Well if just some of those questions can be answered, the team should improve. This oline is obviously far from great. But it shouldn't be too far from good.

Thanks - I had forgotten about Abraham Wright - hopefully they will both turn out to be 7th round steals in years to come.

I think Rod Wright's most likely position to come in and contribute would be NT.

I agree with the thread post and with your post. Saban took a good secondary and screwed it up. Look at last years Buffalo game where Losman threw up wounded ducks that went for huge gains b/c our sorry assed CB's wouldn't turn and look for the ball. I was probably never madder in my life at a Dolphins player except Karim Abdul Jabbar's who fell down if he had a pinkie touch. Anyway, I digress, yes, the offense should be much improved, Mularkey was a complete fricking moron (they couldn't tell that from the Buffalo experience: who the hell hired him), and the secondary should fare better from a simplification and someone actually playing guys where they are comfortable (ala Jason Allen).

Anyway, nice thread, nice posts, I agree. GO PHINS~!

I will give out grades once I see how everything plays out rather than giving another opinion that has no basis of fact.
Who knows if everything will work out better than last year?
Who can predict how injuries will determine our fate?
Who knows if our Oline will gel?
Who knows if our Defense can continue to dominate as they age?
Who knows how are Dbs will contribute this year? Will they continue to have "hands of stone" pertaining to interceptions?
Can our Qbs produce?
Can Ronnie Brown produce?
Can Ginn be more than a return man?
Can Jason Allen wake up?
Can our Wide Receivers and Ends find 150 receptions just to replace
the 150 we lost when Wes,Randy, and our 2 back up RBs jumped ship?
Can our new coaches help that much with so many question marks that need to be answered?

Can anyone other than Zach or JT over achieve?

Are we closer to a 4-12 team or a 12-4 team?

Time will tell regarding all of these questions but one thing I can say is that
WE ARE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION and what a feeling to have expectations and realize that we are going to get better year by year!!
