PLAYMAKING FREE SAFETY – If the Dolphins could combine Tyrone Culver’s intelligence and preparation with Reshad Jones instincts, and Chris Clemons athleticism they would have the ultimate playmaking free safety. But for now, the Dolphins just have a trio of solid options.Considering both General Manager Jeff Ireland and new defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle were committed to getting better play from the position it wouldn’t surprise me if the Dolphins add another safety via the draft or free agency. It doesn’t help that Yeremiah Bell’s cap number is $6.2 million, and cutting him or restructuring his deal, which is in its final season, would potentially create about $3-4 million in cap space. For more: http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...sweblog+(Miami+Dolphins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)

Bell is a good player, if he would restructure, we should keep him.
The other three guys are situational players, not impact players IMHO.

I want Bell gone, he's a shell of his former self. And that self wasn't very good at coverage or fast to begin with...

I want to see what jimmy wilson can develop into.

Jimmy Wilson has a place on this roster this season but that is at Nickel corner.

Miami needs a free safety bad, been preaching it since last season at this time. Hell last season the standard response was "why do we need a free safety, we have X, Y, Z".

X,Y, Z suck that's why.

The draft isn't a slam dunk for safeties so more than likely it is going to have to come via free agency, i.e. someone like Nelson. Bell should be a higher priority than anyone is giving him credit for, if you cut Bell to save cap space it leaves a hole to fill at both Safety positions, yeah you can move Jones over to SS but that doesn't mean he is going to be a better option than Bell. You sign Bell to a 2 year deal and then either move Jones over behind him to play or draft a SS to play behind Bell and address the bigger need at Free Safety and address Strong Safety next off season.

An elite safety can assure you have a great Defense. I personally feel Vontae Davis is a great fit at FS. Problem is he is a pretty darn good CB too. I just feel like he would see the field better to create some turnovers. Plus Davis is a solid hard hitting player. Jimmy Wilson is also a possibility. Not sure how his tackling is. One player I dont want to see at safety is Sean Smith. I want safety's who can tackle....bottomline.

Not sure if any rookies are worth it round one or not. Elite safety are as good if not better than pass rushers.

I agree with NY8123, this draft is very thin on safeties. We cannot afford to draft Barron at 8/9 and he is the only legit safety that has more upside than our current players. We should restructure/resign Bell, and address the safety position in free agency(low cost stop gap) or draft them next year. We can get by with the players we have for another year.
IMHO, keeping Paul Solai is more important to this defense than any of those safeties.

Reshad is playing out of position. He is a SS not a FS. I think he would do well at SS too. Bell is a locker room leader so getting rid of him is tough to do. He is highly regarded by the players. He isnt great but he isnt a liability overall.

we haven't have a playmaking safety in a long time. Maybe we'll get Nelson but we might need to draft one this year.

Ozzy rules!!
