It's been a while since the Ogun/Booker trade so I thought I'd see how everybody feels about the trade now. In the trade, the Dolphins traded the 2003 sack leader Adewale Ogunleye to the Bears for WR Marty Booker, and the Bears 2004 3rd rd pick.

When looking back on this trade there are many aspects to consider before agreeing or disagreeing with it. First off, Ogunleye was holding out for a new contract and wouldn't budge on his demands. Wanny allowed him to pursue a trade but no team was about to give up the 2 first round draft pick price tag for him and give him a huge contract so as time passed Speilman accepted a deal with the Bears. Here is the production each player has had for their new team.

Adewale Ogunleye 76 tackles 14 sacks 2 FF 7 pass def.

Marty Booker 79rec 1188yds 3tds 15yd avg

Since Ogunleye departed, David Bowens and Kevin Carter have took on his old duties. Here's their production:

David Bowens 62 tackles 11sacks 4 FF 8 pass def.

Kevin Carter 42 tackles 5 sacks 3 pass def.

combined production: 104 tackles 16 sacks 4FF 11 pass def.

Lastly we get to the 3rd round pick recieved in the trade. Channing Crowder was selected. I know some of you may think we used the pick in the trade for Lamar Gordon but we actually traded our own 3rd rd pick for him.

I wasn't real excited with the trade at first but have been very happy with the outcome to date. Booker has served as a much needed quality #2 wr (imo) and we have had excellent production from Bowens and Carter. Channing Crowder may be the best thing to come out of the trade. We've relied on him a lot this season and he is the future of our LB core. I brought this up because a lot of us were agaisnt the trade when it happened and I wanted to know how the majority stands now.

So, looking back on the trade, are you guys happy how things turned out or still wish we would've given Ogun his pay day?

Lamar Gordon was pure desperation.. it would have been great if Saban had two thirds in the 2005 draft.

It was nice now but at the time we should of got Marty Booker and Anthony Thomas.

Nice job, thanks for the research. I guess we did get on the high end of the deal. :)

No problem. Things could've worked out better if we had gotten A-Train or didn't trade for Gordon but in the end we now have Ronnie Brown and Crowder. If this is how things had to play out for that to happen, so be it.

yeah good job on the researrch and it looks like that trade worked out well.

We made a couple stupid draft pick trades last year. A 2nd for Feeley & a 3rd for Gordon. No doubt we would have had CB Corey Webster with that 2nd rounder & I'm gonna guess either QB Charlie Frye or Andrew Walter with that 3rd rounder. How complete would our draft look if that would have happened?

1st-RB Ronnie Brown
2nd-CB Corey Webster
2nd-DE Matt Roth
3rd-QB Charlie Frye/Andrew Walter
3rd-LB Channing Crowder
4th-DB Travis Daniels
5th-OT Anthony Alabi
7th-DT Kevin Vickerson

The key for todays team is that Ogun would have killed us cap-wise. Going into next year the Fins are in cap heaven.

I still think Crowder would've been Saban's pick if we hadn't traded the other 3rd. I think we would've went QB if we kept the other pick. A.Walter, C.Frye, and D.Greene all went in the 3rd rd and we would've had our pick of which one to take if we hadn't traded the other 3rd. Chris Henry also would have be tempting. Oh well, I still think we came out ahead and at least we don't have to worry about such bad decisions being made anymore.

Well looking at the title and not readin your post, I would have said I HATED the deal. I LOVED Ogunleye because it started to get the pressure off JT and allowed for a sack duo. It was a beautiful thing. He was one of my fave players and actually lived next door to one of my friends which was pretty cool. When he was traded I was hear broken. Your stats do show that we have done well tho and I think our defensive line is once again one of the best.

It all comes down to what was best for the team. I would've loved to see Ogun and Taylor terrorize qb's for multiple years but we already had a lot of money invested in a DE. With cap troubles approaching and a serious lack of offensive talent, I think Wanny and Co. made the right decision (for once).

Then we would've lost out on Frye & Walter if we took Crowder first. Saban did like Frye & was targeting him in the 3rd, just missed him by a couple picks.

Well first of all I don't think you can fairly combine David Bowens and Kevin Carter production and compare it alone to Adewale.

Why not this if he was still here:
Adewale Ogunleye 76 tackles 14 sacks 2 FF 7 pass def.
David Bowens 62 tackles 11sacks 4 FF 8 pass def.

combined production: 138 tackles 25 sacks 6 FF 15 pass def.

Fact is if
Adewale was here it would be a great rotation as well and maybe more production with Taylor always commanding a double but who knows its all fantasy and guessing at this moment.

What I do question is that
Adewale got a 30 million contract and we traded for booker who's contract was somewhat similar at 29 mil.
go figure but anyways you know how the story goes we were putting too much money on the defensive side so we had to balance the offense with more talent.

Couldn't agree more.

What's sad is we also tried to trade a 4th for James Jackson. :smackhead
