OK first day to see the Rookies. I'm concentrating on them a bit more. Soon they will have to either sign contracts or disappear until they do.
First lets start with Beck. He looked just a bit overwhelmed, and had to be instructed on some plays. Kind of learning on the fly. He also did not get quite as many looks today as the other two. I'll say this though. The one thing that stands out about him is his release. He has a very smooth throwing motion, but it's the flick of his wrist that gets it out so fast. His intermediate throws for the most part were dead on target. He also throws nice spirals, especially on the deeper passes. He only launched a couple of them today and both were off the mark, but his Wr's will be looking at some nice, much easier to catch passes from him.
Lemon, and Hamdan both took about as many snaps today, and both Qb's were also very much on the mark with the intermediate throws. Lemons familiarity with the offense is very evident.
Lorenzo Booker has some really nice quick moves. His top end speed is no better than Ronnie Browns, and once a defender gets his hands on him, he's easier to bring down. In open space though, he could be deadly. On one run he stayed tucked in behind his blocker, and then made three separate moves in a row to go untouched for about 25 yards. Yes, it was without pads, and yes there is not hitting, but to go untouched raised caught my attention for sure.
Mauia will easily get the nickname of Bowling Ball. He's listed at 6' 0'' but I don't know about that. Maybe his build threw me off but he looks like he's 5'10''. He's got some pop in his blocks too, and also, he runs very smoothly out in the flat. I really hope he impresses enough to stick because learning from Schlesinger, who is no small boy by any means, could give them their FB of the future. The two FB's were pretty much stuck on each other like glue threw most of practice this morning.
Satele worked a lot with Hadnot, who once again wore sported the short shorts tights. I know it's more info than most would care to invision but darnit all, it seems to be a spreading theme amongst the Guards. At least three or four more lineman have now begun to wear them. Big fat boys wearing biker type short shorts. Uggghhhh!! I did not notice if they stuck Satele in at Guard, but I know one thing. I like the way he was working in individual workouts. He's got a pretty quick first step. He looks to have kind of short arms, but he moves really well for a big man. Without looking at his workout numbers, I would think he faired much better with the short stuff. Oh btw, from the very little one person can see in his first practice, he looks to me, to have some pretty good mechanics.
And finally be on the look out for DT Paul Saliai. I know we got a player that was projected by some to go a lot higher, but I'm interested why he slid like he did. He is one HUGE DUDE!! A total load that will be tough for anyone to move. He made a couple of nice plays out there today.
Well, for the most part, the defense dominated today but that's to be expected. A couple of nice plays by JT on Carey, and a nice Int by Lehan on a tight pass right into the breadbasket of the Wr on a throw from Beck. Also Jason Allen made a couple of nice pass breakups.
NOW ONCE AGAIN PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THESE ARE ONLY ONE MANS OPINION. THIS IS ALSO A PRACTICE THAT IS DONE WITH NO HARD HITTING AND NO PADS SO TAKE EVERYTHING WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.
I hope everyone enjoys the read..........and if there are any questions feel free to ask away.
