Aside from the frustration of a terrible loss against the Pats, I can't explain what an immeasurable sadness I feel for Cam Wake. For the past six and a half seasons, the guy gave this team his all. He has always been a consummate professional and unnecessarily loyal to our franchise, even making his last contract team-friendly. And he has given Dolfans some of our favorite memories over the past half-decade - who will forget the walk-off sack against the Bengals on Halloween?

It's not just his sheer talent and abilities that made me a huge fan, but rather the person and his story. His journey in of itself is inspirational, almost unbelievable. You know, I long passed the age where I looked "up" to professional athletes. Except for Cam. I'm the same age as him. I probably have a more "important" job. But I actually still look up to that guy. I've learned things from him, as cliche as those lessons may be.

He truly deserved to be on better teams - it is simply sinister that the man did not even get a taste of the playoffs.

I don't think his playing days are over, but his career as a Dolphin most likely is. And it's hard to say if he'll ever have the same burst if/when he does come back next season. That look he had when he was on the ground - he knew it was over. He was taking in the stadium, the environment, possibly one last time. He always talked about never taking football for granted, and even in the moment of what must have been tremendous pain and frustration, he clearly appreciated it.

So here's to you Cam. Thanks for being one of the few bright spots, if not the brightest, for us since you got here. I'm crushed that it ended this way. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I wish I could thank this a million times. Wake is a warrior. After being rejected from the NFL he busted his ass in the CFL and became such a force the NFL came calling. His heart for the game should never be in question. Unfortunately like a lot of us he is getting older. Nothing but respect for Cameron Wake

Guys, was looking for injury updates on Wake and came across this article posted yesterday from a Texans blogger of all people. It's long, but it gives maybe the most in-depth analysis I've ever seen on Cam Wake's skill set. Definitely worth a read, and especially poignant given that this may be the last time we ever see his fantastic talents on display. Godspeed - Get well soon, Cam!

Yeah, it's like he could tell his goose was cooked. Sucks. I hope he has a miraculous recovery.

Worst part of the day by far. The loss is a blip on the radar compared to the tragedy of losing wake to a career ending injury. God what a ****ty day. A great player and great story. Tragically he's taken at a time when he's still so damn good. Catastrophic loss. He'll be missed.

I hate to say this, but he will be a cut in the offseason right? or will injury prevent that?
I think if he was healthy, that would have been a consideration.

Agreed.. The loss doesn't bother me too much. But the Wake injury was unexpected. Dude was the heart and soul of this defense and as a Dolphin fan, I will always be grateful for what he brought to this team.

The wierd part was how calm he was. When they showed him laying there it was just like nothing major had happened. I thought maybe it was his hammy but never his Achilles. Look at Foster when he went down...totally different. That is the only thing that gives me hope for him.

Kills me what happened to Cam. Dude is a warrior. Hoping for a speedy recovery and return to the field.
