It aint over till Queen Latifah sings!
I've been watching the offseason pass along with the rest of you and see a big change happening. This whole Ricky thing put a lot into perspective for me. I like Ricky, I really do. He made us suffer a 4-12 season but I'm ok with that because it got rid of Wanny and brought us our man in Saban. He came back last year and did everything that was asked of him and in my opinion did a great job of mentoring Ronnie Brown. But I never felt that he could carry us to the promised land. He was just too problematic, and I felt that as long as he was in town Ronnie would never get the kind of workload he'd need to make us a Super team again. To me he always stuck out as a piece of the Wanny/Spielmann puzzle. With him gone I feel like this is more Saban's team now. It reminds me of Marvin Lewis' move of getting rid of Corey Dillon. He was a great player, but not the right fit...so he shipped him out and now they're contenders. If we brought in someone like Brees I think we'd be on par with someone like Cincy (maybe better because of our defense). I think Brees matches well with Palmer, T.O. would match up well with Chad J., Chambers is better than Housmanzadeh (sp?), and Ronnie seems like more of a beast than Rudi. And to top that off Saban has built himself an elite coaching staff. I don't know about the rest of you, but the departure of Ricky Williams to me looks like a step in the right direction.
