I let a few people here know in advance but didn't want to have to break the bad news to too many people if things didn't pan out.

Since I know now, I am happy to share that I was accepted into the PhD program at the University of Idaho for the Fall semester.

I targeted that school because of the work that they were doing in a few areas that I am interested in. My PhD will be in Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry my focus will probably be in Biochemistry / Molecular Biology (Cell Cycle Regulation) and, God willing, I will graduate in 5 years or less.

I am jazzed because the school, though prominent in their field, is small and they only accept a few students a year. The acceptance rate is less than 10%. Somehow I snowed them into believing that I should attend their program :err:

Can I let one old man take another old mans A&P final tomorrow???????

Congrats Mal!

From one student to another!

PS

I'm cramming for my final now, somehow it was easier when I was younger.

Awesome news Mal!
I don't know how you and Greg do it, but you guys are inspiring me to move forward with my MBA plans. Other than being broke, I guess you guys have removed any other excuse I had :err:

 I did my second BS in Microbiology and Molecular Biology when I was 43 and my Masters in 45. I feel your pain, bro but you will get no sympathy from me :)

Fortunately, I got a full scholarship and a stipend until I graduate. Otherwise, I'd never be able to afford it.

Going back to school has made me broke.

But I'm sure Mal will agree, when its something you love and in my case, when I finally realize it, you go for it!

True stuff, Joe.

It may cost you 20K for your MBA but it would raise your annual earnings by 20K or more...it is easy math.

Once you get back into the fray, you will settle into your own pace and make it work. Your MBA should be done in 14-16 months so, as Masters programs go, you have it good. ;)

Congrats, Mal.From one doctoral student to another...hope you buy plenty of Visine.

Congrats Mal, my favourite field too. I was never a good student and not sure how you all do it going back to get PhDs and MBAs now. I am struggling with the decision to go back to get a certificate in Business practicefromthe U of Minn Carlson School of Business, let alone do a whole freaking degree program.

Mal what are you going to do your research for your Doctorate on?

Congrats Malcolm. Best of luck bro.

And Greg, I know you'll do great.

Now, my task is a little bit different. I told my sister that when I become well off one day, God willing, Id go back to school and beat her 4+ GPA from Cornell and her top 3% law school degree from NYU. Ticks me off that I messed around so much when I was a kid knowing now that I could have done much better. Thats a challenge I want one day.

I don't know bro. I haven't chosen a lab yet. I have to do a three lab rotation.

My master's research was to investigate the role of CDC6 in prostate cancer.
