A nice film breakdown of Cutler with Gifs

This is excellent analysis. Great stuff. And it looks dead on which is rare.

I'm seeing a better move athlete than I expected good quick feet too but I can already tell that this guy trusts his arm way too much and it leads to sloppy head and eye discipline in his drop and poor consistency of mechanics.

Odd too that when he scrambles or flows laterally in the pocket he likes to do so to his weakside away from his arm side. And when he does look to move to his arm side and throw on that side the balls very erratic.

He's getting in trouble cause he trust his arm too much regardless of platform which has been an issue his entire career and as a result of his arm he hasn't learned that his head and eyes must not give away his intentions in his drop. Doesn't look to be holding any safety or lb level. Something tannehill does at the very high level. Flat footed throws that defenders run under again cause he thinks he can throw a rope on any platform.

this is the definition of a gunslinger in his own head.

Nice work. One of the things I notice though is that probably half those highlights are broken plays where's he doing something on the scramble. Now that's probably a good indication of what he's going to have to do behind our o-line, but a few of those also look to me like he held it when he should've thrown it. Still, if anyone doubted the athleticism of Cutler, it's on full display in these gifs.

Yeah the athlete is pretty impressive but I'm gonna go ahead and say that if we get later than a top 16 pick in 2018 we have beaten the odds. Everything about this screams look to 2018. Even gase isn't gonna change a 34 year old qbs stripes. Because he knows the offense so well does that mean gase can run tempo. Maybe...I'd say it's the one potential game changer we have with our qb situation.

Im fully prepared to be frustrated with consistency of qb play. Would love to be pleasantly surprised.

Very solid article, thanks for posting!

Agree with Hoops on all his points; very odd about throwing better when moving to his off side versus ball side, can't remember ever seeing that before. Would love the chance to get some of those clips on slow-mo and get a detailed look at the mechanics there.

Cutler has serious arm talent, but is a bit undisciplined which can be a troublesome combo at times. There will be plenty of chances for both the pro and anti Cutler camps to claim that they were right about him.

I had forgotten what pocket presence looked like.

He definitely has that. But he's got a horrible habit of when he's flushed stopping and throwing flat footed or worse off his back foot.

It's a darn good thing his shoulder isn't an issue cause he couldn't afford to lose much on that arm considering his whole game in his head relies on it.

basically this - my hand has a reservation for one at a spot on my forehead

but then again, the continuity of the offensive system, coupled with our weapons, gives our "could be great" coach an opportunity to turn this into a damn impressive run for himself and this team
