here's an idea for everyone....instead of tossing big money at a bunch of big name FA,regardless of their age,or how good they are at their respective positions...why don't we trust our FO to do the right&smart thing and build our team through the draft...don't misunderstand me now, there are going to be some damn good FA's out there, and anyone of them would help us greatly, but i really like the idea of us building our team in the draft....just something i figured i'd toss out there as food for thought...

Best post I have seen in a long time. Concur whole heartedly.

Building through the draft is a no brainer but I love the way you are thinking.

We also have to play the FA game. One or possibly two. No need to make a big splash though.

I would guess we would be willing to give up some cash for need but draft picks are gold.

well gee wiz what would we have to chat about if we did that. may be great in theory but on a knowledged blessed message board not so good of a idea.

I'm on board with that idea. All you have to do is look at the Steelers roster, it's loaded with value picks.

Gotta build through the draft and bring in a few key free agents here and there.

I'd be all about bringing in Dansby, Suggs, Peppers or Nnamdi, but it's obvious that we can't get them all. If we land one of those guys I'd be ecstatic.

In the end that's what we have to do, but what fun is sitting still twiddling your thumbs? I think it's OK to talk "what if's".

Thank god we have a FO that can actually pick players that are useful and can do something for this organization for 10 years. LONG LIVE TUNA!!

but i did like trading a second rounder for a.j. feeley. JK!!

talking "what if" is ok,but i damn sure don't want us to end up like the Jets and spend big money on big name FA just to win now,and end up in cap hell, and i trust our FO to not do that...the SB teams of the last decade+ built their teams in the draft, and allowed them to develop in their systems...they didn't sign a bunch of big name FA just to win now,and that's what i want us to do,build through the draft and allow our draftees to develop in our system, that's all i'm saying...i know we're gonna bring in a FA or 2,just no big named ones just to win now...we went through that in the Wanny era,and look how it turned out for us...i wanna see our Dolphins back in the SB and win it while i'm still relatively young, and i want to know we did it the right&smart way, through the draft...

I don't think that will happen with BP. We had 40 mil to spend last year and we really didn't sign one "big name" player other than maybe Jake Long. I think the the entire FO from BP down is about long term, building for the future, setting a foundation. I think that's why last year was about the interior offense and defense and this year it will be about LB's and S's. I don't think you will see us sign maybe one big name offensive weapon if that.

I love the direction of this team right now. I love the way they think. I love the 3-4 defense, I love having a veteran QB with young QB talent learning the game behind the veteran. I love the coaching style TS brings to this team. I just think this team has not been this focused on winning since Shula was here. I think we are being built the way a team tha's gonna contend for a title should be built and I haven't felt that in a while.

My dream for the longest time is to one day look at the Dolphins roster, and see a roster full of players that were drafted, UDFA's, and perhaps a smidgen of FA's. Honestly, when was the last time you saw a Miami roster that looked like that? A team that was primarily built through the Draft? When I see the rosters of the Colts, Steelers, and Chargers I get a little jealous because that's not just what great teams look like, but it's what CHAMPIONSHIP teams look like.

Let me give you some an explanation as why this logic is flawed.

A avg NFL team has 17 position of turn over in a NFL season . So per draft class you do not even get 17 picks .

In a draft year depending on a position you are looking at 2 starters and 2 backups at an avg.I am avg good class and bad classes over years.

Now , off the 17 position turning over due to FA you are not going to hold onto all the good talent.some stay some might not.

so this problem you are building a team where you might catch a flash in the pan for a year but never more as the losses are not being restocked .you might draft a guy who
takes more time to develop then another so what do you do?
