Hello Mr. Hickey,

I just wanted to stop by and give you a few last minute pointers from a Dolphins fans perspective on the day of your first draft with our storied but troubled franchise.

1. Don't Reach

2. If ATL comes calling for Wake, listen.

3. Follow your board

4. Ignore Ross

5. Don't Reach

6. Do not under any circumstances trade out of the 2nd round! Not to move up. Not for anything. If you want to move our 3rd or our 4th or a 2nd or third next year so be it, but we need as many picks in the first 60 selections in this draft as we can get.

7. Do not be content at WR. If Moncrief falls to the 3rd, pull the trigger! If Lee is the top player on your board at 19, pull the trigger! You can never have too much talent at WR.

8. Draft 2 - 3 offensive lineman. Now I am fine with the late round guys, Billy Turner in the 3rd or 4th would be perfect and if you are unfamiliar with this player go check out his tape, the man can play. Great movement and size. I like Charles Leno Jr. in the 5th or 6th. And don't forget taking a flyer on the injured Brandon Thomas who was knocking on the 1st round prior to his untimely injury, Or James Hurst who broke his leg in the final game and could not participate in the senior bowl or combine. He would be ready to go around training camp if I am not mistaken and a chip on his shoulder.

9. Don't Reach!!!

10. You will get heat if you pass on Oline in the first, but draft a difference maker like Mosley, Pryor, Beckham, or Lee and I have a strong feeling all will be forgiven once the season rolls around.

11. Do not trade Dion Jordan for anything less than a 1st and 2nd from the Eagles. The kid is a special talent who can be made to fit our scheme but even I know that 2 additional picks in this top 60 would be hard to pass up.

12. Do Not Reach

I think that about covers it for me. Any other fans feel free to chime in with your tips for our GM before he pops his draft cherry.

Keep it simple silly (kiss)!

Not to be confused with a reach-around. With which there is nothing wrong with that.

So go bargain bin shopping to fix the offensive line? No thank you.

13. Don't pull an "Ireland".

Meaning don't make an inexplicably bad selection in the 2nd round, please.

I 2nd the "don't pull an "Ireland" in the 2nd round!" As well as don't reach.

Nope not dumpster diving but mining for gold. There are 4 plug and play linemen in this draft, maybe 5 if you include Suafilo. We wont be in range for any of them at 19. So we can either sacrifice our entire draft to try and move up for one player, or we can fill in our other needs early with all world talents and then look for developmental scheme fit and players who fell through the cracks due to injuries.

Is this an ideal situation, of course not. Do I want Zach Martin or Jake Matthews on this team, of course I do. But do I think Cyrus, Xavier or Bitonio would be able to contribute more to this team in 2014 than a player the caliber of Mosley, Pryor, or one of the numerous WR talents that will still be hanging around at 19, no I don't. I don't trust any of the 2nd tier RTs enough as a plug and play, they will still need developing so why reach for them when you can grab a guy later who may be more raw but fits your scheme better and maybe is more coach-able.

You must take emotion and need out of the draft room and at the end of the day take the players you feel have the most potential to change the culture of your franchise and take you to that next level. Some o-lineman fit that qualification, but that's why they will be long gone by the time we are on the clock.

Just curious and you may have already stated this in another thread so if you have I apologize, if all the top rated OL are gone at 19 (a very real scenario IMO) who would your pick be? (Assuming you cannot trade out of the pick).

That's exactly what you are doing when you reach, only you get to the cash register and demand to pay more than the value of item because you are desperate for that DVD of Waterworld.

If the top tackles are taken, and unable to move out at 19, I take XSF. And would be happy with it. You get the best guard in the draft and another viable needed piece to fix the weakest unit in the NFL.

Or we can put the same movie on a endless loop and sit in front of the tv and expect a different result. Fix the o line. Period.

Well I do like the XSF option, it's a little high for him but if he works out guess it does not matter in the end. Prisco has him coming to use at #50 but don't think he makes it that far in the second. I would be up for trying to move up in the second round if we don't get a OL in the first but don't want to move up in the first round with all the other needs. If we somehow drafted let's say someone like Lee in the first and got XSF in the second I would be thrilled.
