More importantly than a new offense, new assistant coach, or new player, Nick Saban needed to come into Miami and install a new attitude.
Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan all my life, pre-dating the Perfect Season, and I've stuck with the Dolphins through the few really lean times they've had over the years.
But it seems to me, ever since Shula's final season, when the team went on a free agent shopping spree with the intention of purchasing a Lombardi, that the team has consistently underacheived based on the talent assembled. Backing into the playoffs, blowing leads, losing to teams we should clearly beat... letting the Jets treat Joe Robbie like their home stadium.
Failing to show heart, character, focus, and the ability to get the job done when it needed to be done.
I think today's Jets game is an enormously important statement game for the Dolphins. Has Saban installed the attitude necessary for the team to concentrate on the task at hand... a task that they clearly have the tools to complete.
Personally, I'm not going to be happy with anything less than domination in all aspects of the game.
