I'm not sure if this has been asked so if it has, I apologize. JT has said he only wants to play 1 more year. If this is true and now everyone knows it, how can the FO expect any contender to give up a 1st rounder for a rent a player? I don't even think Spielman would do that. I know you will say that JT is a special player, etc. but that just wouldn't make any sense on any level. If the FO knew this before the draft and we had a 2nd rounder on the table (based on some reports which may or may not be accurate), we should have pulled the trigger. Now, I can't see a team giving up more than a 3rd.

I honestly don't think we'd even get a 3rd for JT now,at best,maybe a 5th,and i'm sure there's a team out there that's saying to themselves...you know,we get JT,and we're SB bound,he's all we need to go all the way.

What I want to know that I don't think has been answered (although I haven't read all 1000000 related JT threads) is...

If he only wants to play for one more year what exactly does he plan to do with the second year of his contract he will still owe us, assuming he does play for us in the 08 season?

If he really wanted to be traded then he should be telling people he'll play for 3-4 more years. Then he could go to a contender and retire after one year if he really wants to. By saying that he'll probably play one more year is almost killing his chance of being traded.

I don't think our FO is seriously expecting a 1st round pick for JT. I think they're just telling the rest of the NFL to stop calling unless they are ready to ante up.

No one is going to offer us a 1st rounder for JT. That is Bill point to JT without saying it directly to JT, I want you to stay. We all know JT will not be playing football much longer.

i can honestly say about 1 month ago i saw the team trading with philly for Jason taylor and in return they get lito shepperd but know i think they want to value him up this year and trade him next offseason there was a press confrence and he denied wanting to be traded and asking for a trade..

i can se him playing this year..:foundout:

but run when he has the chance

I don't think Miami has any intention of trading JT. I think by making it clear they want a first round pick for him that's their way of saying we aren't interested in moving JT unless you're super desperate. I think the FO knows we need JT this year to compete. I also think the FO is looking at next year to be a serious threat in the league to compete with any team on any Sunday. Maybe not a serious playoff team, but a team other teams just don't want to play. I also think if Miami finds a way to be competitive this year, JT might finish out the remaining year on his contract.

If he retires after this year his remaining year would be null and void. It would not count against Miami in the salary cap and Miami would not be responsible to pay him any salary or incentives in 09. He would then draw his NFL retirement and whatever investments he has made to insure his future monetary stability.

let him retire a life long dolphin, i dont see the issue in that, and every team has a chance of goin to the superbowl, including the dolphins, real fans dont throw in the white towel before training camp has started

REAL fans don't have any influence in the destiny of their football team. I'm excited about the season but I'm not even thinking playoffs until we see what hapens on the field. If we are 4-4 fter 8 games there would be a chance. I think by week 8 we'll be very fortunate to be 3-5.

you know the more I think about it, maybe JT is just pulling a Seau. Act like you've got nothing left to give (1 year) so your team will let you out of your contract cause you plan on retiring and then go to play for a contender the following season.

I know he's got the Hollywood itch, but I don't see why he couldn't put that on hold for three years...finish out his Phin contract the honest and admirable way. Sign a one year deal with whoever he needs to take his SB run, and then sign a one day Phin contract and hang it up in the ring of honor. Cause if you want to use Seau as an example again I think he's got like 5 years on JT and he was playing at an extremely high level still last year, so unless his heart is just totally not in it anymore. If Seau can go that long I don't see why JT couldn't.

Were not getting anything for him now... Maybe a 4th or 5th, tops.. The best value scenario for us would be to make a player for player trade

I personally think we will end up trading him for a player. Picks are way to overvalued these days while players for some reason are not.
