So many of the posters on the board think Cam Wake will be a great starter. On the other hand, these same people want to draft an OLB in the first round. I know Peezy is getting old and Wake is not a proven NFL player, but with the opinion on Wake, why is linebacker a higher priority to most of you guys than CB where we have no depth at all,, or a WR?

And I think his contract still has 3 years left on it. This is a good question. Personally, I think CB, WR, and ILB should be addressed at the top of our 2009 draft.

What im saying is i think we are looking for starters with at least 2 of our first three picks. I just think we have higher priorities with a #1 wr and a starting corner. Heck i wouldnt mind drafteing 2 corners with our first 3 picks.

Given our lack of Pass rush towards the end of last season i think most of us admit that a pass rusher is a high priority in the coming draft , Porter has 2 (maybe 3) seasons left at this level and Wake is unproven . CB is also a need and i'll admit we have very little quality/depth at the position , however , more pressure on the QB means the secondary gets helped therefor given the depth at CB this draft i'd go OLB in the 1st (grab one of the top rushers) then take 2 CB's (one with either 2nd round pick, and another in round 5 or 6) . This way the secondary gets a possible starter in round 2 but also improves due to the increased pressure we get on the opposing QB . Plenty good Cb's to be had this year , not to many good Pass rushers when we pick in round 2 .

i am stoaked on Wake coming in, and hope he definitely works out well for us... but i am not one that wants to draft an OLB high. i wouldnt mind getting a OLB pass rusher later in the draft if feasable, but i am one that want an ILB higher up in the draft if possible. definitely a CB and C and WR too though. It matters who is around at #25.... lots of choices!!!

An OLB that can bring the pressure Opp of Porter and be able to cover would be excellent. Looking at draft board we can get a starting OLB at #25 and still be able to land a possible starting CB with one of the 2 second round picks.

Remember, Cam Wake couldn't make it in the NFL before. His numbers in Canada are against guys who couldn't make it in the league either. Not saying he will not make an impact, but you do have to look at that.

See we need more than a possible starting CB though we need a probable or sure fire starting CB

I remember the coaches talking about how deep they thought this year's LB draft was. If that's true, then I'm guessing they will take at least one in the middle rounds (3-5).

Yeah it kind of amazes me at this point how much Wakes performance could impact our season. If he excels next season and gets lets say 8 sacks then we will be very tough on defense. but with our weak Cb crew if he bombs we could be in for a long season, seeing as Porter can only do so much. If we draft a OLB 1st round that may change but for right now Wake could be a HUGE factor for us.

A 3-4 defense is designed to primarily stop the run, and it is not designed to put as much pressure on the QB. NFL teams compensate for this by having great safeties and having a steller front seven with very good pass rushing LB. If you have the talent at OLB and safety, then the quality of your CB is not as important. If you have any weakness at safety or OLB, then it is difficult to stop the passing game even if you have two top 5 CB. This is why the Patriots were able to dismantle the Steelers a few years ago. The OLBs did not generate enough pass rush.

Thats what I have been saying exactly, but you have to admit, that video where he is talking about taking out all distractions, like TV, parting etc. is kinda terrifying. He is a beast of a man.

Why would the Dolphins draft or even sign another center after they just gave Jake Grove a $30 million contract and Sanson Satelle still on the roster?

The thing is Wake played more of DE there. He will have to prove that he can drop back and cover also.
