I posted this because of how it relates to the Dolphin QB prospects next year for all of you lets move it to the proper MessageBoard Police guys...

Now my thoughts are that Miami will finish ahead of the Jets, so their chances of getting Matt Leinart are even worse. Plus here is another thought, could Miami honestly afford the $60 million dollar contract this guy will get? No in fact not many NFL teams can...
----------------

• Billy Volek, Titans: He had one of the amazing footnotes that went relatively unnoticed in 2004. In his first nine NFL starts, no quarterback in league history has thrown for more yards (2,591) than Volek did for Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, who is now running the Jets' O.

• Patrick Ramsey, Washington Redskins: Even if the Redskins are playing hardball, he surely will be moved or released prior to the '06 season.

• Rivers or Drew Brees, Chargers One of them will be available.

• Chris Simms, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: I know three teams that are eyeballing his restricted free agency, now convinced he has the moxie and the big arm to succeed in any offense. The problem is, the Bucs also see him as their future quarterback even with Brian Griese enjoying relative success. Simms will not be content to sit another year.

As one NFL head coach told me, "Leinart's a very good prospect but, to me, that's all he is. I'm pretty sure I'd rather take my chances with these other guys and the price tag won't be as costly, either."

Too much content. Especially for a paid article. Had to smash it. -Mod

Unless they win the SB with Greise, the Bucs aren't letting Simms go. But I'd take Greise back in a flash. I think he still is a good QB with a real coach which we now have. He got the typical Feidler Wanny love affair shft when he was here. I may take some abuse for this, but he's one QB I'd be ok with us having again (yeah, I know, we'd all like Marino back!)

With taht said, I think a Chargers QB is our other most realistic option.

Griese's playing well, but we need to get younger at the qb position and fast.

I'd like to draft one. Our problem since Dan retired is picking up other peoples backups, something I'd like to avoid doing again. There are other good QBs in the draft than Leinart, and you might not even have to spend a first rounder on all of them. I still really like Jacobs eventhough he played a horrible game two weeks ago. Hackey is also a pleasure to watch.

Griese is not the answer. His long ball is mediocre at best. He's more adept to the WC offense than a Scott Linehan offense. Bringing him in would be really stupid. Personally, I believe Billy Volek would fit our offense MUCH BETTER.

I'm not sure I would want a rookie QB right now. We are trying to win now so what would be the benefit of getting a rookie QB? Not all of them are going to come in like Ben and (ask as little from their QB) like the Steelers. Are there any decent vets out there that will be FA's next year?

That comment by a head coach just shows why most head coaches have no business being personnel guys. Who in their right friggin mind would turn down a chance at Matt Leinart to get someone like Billy Volek?

simms is a free agent after this season, and the bucs haven't been that impressed with him yet. he looked like he regressed this preseason. he'll be gone after this year. i want NOTHING to do with him

KB....heres the question I have...

I like the idea of taking Rivers if he is available. He has had two years to learn about the NFL. I am in complete agreement in taking some other teams backup as a solution...except Rivers..or Sims for that matter dont really fit the mold of "other teams backup"

They are starting QB's being groomed for the job. So why wouldnt you want one of them over drafting a QB who will take two years to develop?

I would prefer to draft one. Especially with all of Saban's knowledge of the college players. That way we can continue to groom one in the mold that Saban wants. Those other 'backups' would require at least one big draft pick. I don't want that.

You heard it here first...Leinhart is a bust!
actually tons of people have said Leinart would be a bust before you, and just like them, you're wrong. he's clearly the best QB in the draft, and no one is really close

Probably the same guy who instead of going after Gannon or a Kerry Collins decided to draft Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Rick Mirir, Andre Ware, Todd Morinavich, Heath Shuler, David Klingler, Cade Mcnown.....or any others who were thrown into the fire to early.

I could also gove you a list of Hiesman winning QBs who failed but I want to eat breakfast. If I had a chance to take a guy out of college or a young NFL QB who has played a couple of seasons and shown he has the arm , IQ , moxie to be on my team Id take the Vetran bc at least when you gove him that fat contract you know what your getting......isnt that right San Diego fans?

there have been just as many great QBs drafted in the first round as busts

i'd rather take the QB who i feel will be better. if i think leinart will be better than brees or whatever, i'd go with leinart. don't go with some ridiculous history (like your heisman QB thing)

Actually there havent been. Im talking forst 2 years too btw. I want to win now. I want Zach and Co. to leave Miami with a ring. Not be able to say we played our ***** off while Matt learned to read an NFL defense.

Id rather have a guy who could win us a championship if put in the right position right now. I think Volek has the arm to do that myself. Im betting they would rather have him playing right now than McNair.

Id love to draft Matt. I wouldnt want to pay out all that money and hogtie my team is he was a bust like all those players I listed did to thier teams.
