A solid report on drafted QB's

I understand some of the frenzy about drafting a QB with the first pick... but if you take a look at the productivity of the classes from 2004 and 2005 if that's something you want... there is a price attached... read the link.

Well no kidding, Most rookies have to develop, very few come in and play like seasoned veterans......how could they?, they are not experenced professionals.

Where and when we draft a quarterback is all dependent on how the man in charge views the quality and value of the players at the point in the draft that they are available.

History clearly shows that the draft for all positions is a crapshoot, sometimes you hit and sometimes you don't, no one is ever or will ever be perfect at it.

History also shows that finding a championship quarterback can happen in any round, or even among undrafted players, but it also shows that the odds of finding one are greater in round one than all the other places combined.

The key, as always, is if your going to draft a QB in round one, make sure you have a solid conviction about the QB's abilities, and that the value is there versus drafting elsewhere.

There is no doubt that there is a risk in taking a 1st round QB, but the fact is that the position is so important to the teams success that it's worth taking the risk...Perhaps its a 50-50 proposition to take a QB high, but on the other hand, it's difficult to work a trade for a second guy that is sitting behind a starter somewhere else and if you do, you overpay for them. The success rate of QBs versus other positions is probably not as lopsided as we all think. It's a risk to take a QB IN ANY ROUND, just like it is to take a RB or LB or CB...

The position is magnified so that it forces teams to take that risk...

First round picks are highly scrutinized regardless, and the Qb is gonna either get alot of credit for the success, or all the blame for the loses. Someone used to have the success rates of Qb's taken after the 1st rd and it's like 6% or something incredibly low, but all we see or hear about is the guys who succeed like Tom Brady. Taking a Qb late in the draft like the 5th rd is a total waste to me, look at Adrian McPherson, he was the big thing on this site last year, and he'll probably never even get an opportunity in New Orleans same thing goes for David Ragone in Houston. Fans who want to try to find a "diamond in the rough," better be patient if that is their philosophy because the team probably will be waiting a real long time to find one. I think because teams invest a first rd pick in a guy, he'll atleast get an opportunity, which is something that guys taken later in the draft probably won't get it.
