Miami is not in the best cap position in the NFL in 2018. I've seen one website where we have $16M available. But I've heard it was less. I think everyone agrees that Miami is starving for talent, both younger and cheaper. I think some of you agree that in 2018 we have opportunities to shed salaries, however, to gain nothing in return would put us in a precarious position. So my question is, should Miami start to plant the seeds with teams like Cleveland, SF and Indy, to trade some players for draft picks, once those teams can absorb the salaries and for those teams to be competitive, they probably need to spend some money, instead of just depending on the draft? In addition, these teams may not attract free agents, so a trade would be a way of acquiring players.

My thinking is Miami has a ton of salary on players that for years haven't transcended this team. Getting picks would not only provide depth and get us younger, but also not leave the team so void that they are forced to again bring in free agents and continue this mediocre run. In other words, why cut players to sign more free agents? Miami needs to stop using free agency as a way of building their team. Another angle is Miami stockpiling picks to move up in the draft. So if you are Clev or SF, you absorb some salary by trading for Miami's veterans. Well, Clev and SF (for example) has very high picks in the draft, that could be attractive to Miami. Maybe Miami can utilize these picks to move up, essentially giving those picks back to those teams. It isn't an exact science, but I think you get what I am saying: shed salaries for picks and move up in the draft with those picks.

I'm sure a lot of you will complain, however, it is insane to keep thinking that the same players, after 5-10 years, will finally all put it together. It is time to move on from players

I think the problem is, if the players with the large salaries aren't doing well for us, why would someone trade for them? I think we need to restructure those large salaries and make some cuts. It would be nice if we could get some game time for those youngsters on the bench too. We need to see if they have potential and are worth investing more time in.

So your saying we need to shed players/salaries so we can draft more players? Uh, kinda wondering why as we haven't been any good at drafting since JJ. I think we would have a bunch of crappy low salaried players/draftees who can't play rather than a few decent players we paid too much for. We're in a perpetual Catch 22 situation and I don't see an end in sight.

Ozzy rules!!

It's hard to trade off vets and get value in the NFL.

I think it's important moving forward for the team to add depth in free agency and make smarter moves.

We can potentially have 44 million in cap space by restructuring a few deals. The cap situation is fine. However, I’m with you as far as trading some guys for picks. I just don’t think the return will be what you think. The only players that will command high picks are players that we need to keep. In fact, most of the players that we should get rid of have little to no trade value at all. I am a firm believer in building through the draft. My preference is to never sign high priced FA’s because you’re paying for past performance.

Draft is a crapshoot. It’s always better to have more picks This is something we haven’t done since JJ. It’s also a different regime so what happened in the past doesn’t matter. However, if we can’t draft decent players then someone needs to lose their job. The answer is never to overpay free agents. That is why we are here.

Restructuring suh and tannehill are our best options at getting room. Both have reasons to listen. Suh because he could extend his high paying seasons by 2 or 3. Tannehill because they have leverage on him due to the knee issue. Maybe neither will, but hopefully at least one does.

The first thing dolphins should do is fix og in free agent. at leased two good one .resign jarvis...draft qb if available DE and bigger faster rb. Cb og lb
