A Tannehill sentiment I think EVERYONE can agree on, in one YouTube video.

So.

On this day, when Tannehill is near-inexorably cemented into the Dolphins's long-term plans with a contract extension, there is a minor kerfuffle (again) about whether or not he's the long term solution at QB. Most are happy, some are frustrated, and as the ever-jovial, level-headed, peace-making gent that I like to think I am, I try to find common ground.

I do not think that the following points are up for debate:

1) With the possible exception of a stud LG, the Front Office has put Tannehill in a good position to succeed this year directing the offense.
2) Tannehill has gotten better every year.
3) The defense should be better than last year.

So when all the dust settles, and all the smoke clears from the offseason, the crosshairs are going to be firmly on Tannehill and Philbin. Philbin has to coach better than he did last year, and Tannehill has to continue his progression. This team NEEDS to make the playoffs.

...and when September comes around, I feel that the Tannehill fans and haters alike are going to be gathered together, watching Tannehill with the same thought in their minds:

1 and 2 are exactly right. 3 is right, but we don't know how much better and it might not be enough. Joe and Coyle have shown themselves to be problems not solutions so we have that to overcome. Wake and Grimes are going to start getting worse not better and there are a lot of other question marks on that D. Unless the oline implodes, we should be much more worried about the D than the O. Suh is the best possible improvement we could have made this offseason, but some unknowns will have to step up.

T-hill should have a new coach next year. Our schedule sucks! 7 of the first 9 games are on the road. I can't remember ever seeing that. That being said I think T-hill will get better and earn this contract. He'll never be a Dan Marino but a top rated QB.

Hell I'll take an average QB at this point . . . and Tannehill is already above that level so it's either lock him up and watch him become great or continue digging through the Cleo Lemons, John Becks and Tyler Thigpens to hopefully find a "Dan Marino" type. I'll take my odds with Tannehill.
