Was the blowout victory over the Chargers last year when Philbin wasn't even around during the week to prepare the team because of his father's passing.

Perhaps it's a sign of things to come. It will be interesting to see he team's performance with the same players under a different coach if he is fired during the season.

We can speculate but it's hard to know whether they played great because someone else handled the prep or they played for their HC who lost his dad. Or both.

What I think makes a switch unlikely to produce better results is if the problem is the scheme/playbook. How will a new coach suddenly utilize players better? Is that accomplished so quickly or does it take time? Are we talking about drawing up new plays, teaching guys different techniques, or is it just a matter of playcalling differently within the same playbook and schemes?

Are the players likely to play harder for someone else if the scheme/utilization problems persist?
