This is strictly hypothetical.

Given the questions about depth @ NT behind Feguson, I am curious to get opinions about possibly moving Shawn to Nose Tackle.

Keep in mind; Murphy started his college career as a DT.

Its just an idea as I have a feeling that 2 of the following 3 (Dotson, Cohen, Soliai) may pan out.

Here's a better though, draft a NT next year who's actually a nose tackle.

If he could play DT, they would've never moved him to OG. The DT is significantly more important than a guard.

He's also like 26 so there isn't much time to experiment with him now. He's a guard who's impressing. Why tinker with that?

I've always wondered why would be failed guard prospects have never tried their fortune at nose tackle? All of them have the size to accomplish the task. Just something that seems worth trying.

Think we're better off looking at some undrafted free agents or NFL free agents who don't have a team rather than moving Murphy back to NT.

Seem's like more work to me than it's worth.

I guess it all depends on why he switched from DT to OG in the first place. Was it a move out of necessity due to lack of depth at guard, a la Troy Brown for New England a few years back? Or was is because he stunk it up on the defensive line?

Agreed. To switch Murphy to NT has no guarantee that he'll have success there any more than keeping him at guard. As of right now, he seems to be developing nicely at RG, and regardless of whether or not he or Donald Thomas starts is a win for Miami either way. Taking Murphy off the offensive line only deprives that unit of its already limited depth for a project (switch to NT) that likely has even less chance for success. Keep the youngster at guard where he belongs;)
