No, you're wrong. What we need is an offensive co-ordinator who understands the game.. The job of a coaching staff is to put your best talented players in the best position to succeed. And too many times they didn't do that for our players early in the game.

In the gamethread I was peeved in the 1st quarter when our play-calling was right into the hands of the steelers.. In the first series, Why we rushed on 1st and 2nd down, then on 1st down again on the next set of downs I'll never know..

Culpepper was a perfect 3 for 3 in his first 3 "quick passes" where he had quick 3 step drops.. Culpepper is a fantastic quick pass QB .. The quick pass to Peele where he ran for 16 yards after the catch in the first drive and two others.. I said before the game, we had to quick pass to set up the run later in the game..

The quick passes were the only plays working early , yet the dolphins got away from it time and time again trying to run the ball for negative yardage on consecutive plays . Or going for a 7 step frop pass eventually getting sacked or causing ourselves trouble.

In the 3rd quarter you saw us starting to get some good room running the ball on that TD drive.. We tried to run the ball way way too much early in the game and we did the Steelers a favor because those were all wasted downs by us..

If Miami kept the quick pass game and let our talented receivers catch then run for first downs early in the game, we would have won.. Then later in the game run more when the Steeler D is a little winded , like we were successful with in the 3rd quarter.. They were a little winded, however not enough because we didn't make em chase enough earlier on with quick passes !! Then hit em deep with a play action pass after running the ball effectively in the 3rd and 4th to seal the game ..

Had Miami instituted that gameplan we would have had the ball more in the first half, which means our defense wouldn't have been tired in the 4th quarter.. And we'd easily win this game by 14 or more pts..

I blame this game on the stupid playcalling early which led right into the steelers hands and had our defense on the field way too much as a result. Hence the loss . This was a win if the coaching staff would have made the proper calls to counter the Steeler D early on .. The coaching staff made it hard on the team . Much harder than it should have been .

For christs sakes we only threw one screen pass to Ronnie Brown over the middle , and in that screen reception he was great and then ran for a first down setting up a first and goal ! It was Brown's best run of the game because he had room out in the flat ! The job of the coaching staff is to put your best players in the best possible position to succeed, and this coaching staff didn't do it enough evidenced by that play and many other plays .

Why we didn't run that play earlier or again in the game I'll never know.. These were the types of plays we needed to run. Quick passes underneath and let our talented receivers make the run after the catch until we get their defense tired. Then let our big offensive linemen wear them down running the ball later when the steeler D would have been very tired by chasing so much early on .

Miami's gameplan early in the game sucked the bag . And I am not saying that after the fact.. Check the GameThread and see my posts in there as the plays happened, and see what I was recommending at said time of the game .

lose the caps bro if you want me to read your posts...

We try to establish the run. You run on first down to give yourself 2nd and 3rd to throw. You run early to get Dante warmed up. You work your way into the game. Then, when Ronnie can't get a yard and you realize that you need to get 10 for a first, you throw. We threw. We also scored 17 points.

Funny. During the pre-season when Dante didn't throw, everyone said here we go again, Dave ball, run, run, run-thanks Malarkey! Now that Dante comes out and throws for 260 yards and Ronnie can't get 30yds running Malarkey is a bad coordinator?

hahaha

Guys, let's not forget 1st time QB-off injury-on the road-hostile crowd-SB champs-AND A COORDINATOR LEARNING SOMEONE ELSE'S SYSTEM.

Let's give the TEAM a few games before we wrap them up as done.

Maybe one day you'll realize when you go up against the best running D in the league you set up quick passes to later set up the run.. For crying out loud the Steelers won the super bowl with that gameplan.. They pass early, then later in the 2nd half run the hell outta teams ..

In case you didn't know, the Steelers led the league in running attempts in the 2nd halves last season.. They were 17th in running for the first half combining all their games.. That means they pass more in the first half, even though they are known as a running team .. This also tells me your plan has been proven wrong, ESPECIALLY when you go up a run defense like the steelers early in the game..

We should have beat Pitt at their own game.. Had we utilized that gameplan I mentioned, we would have won,.,. Hell, the short quick passes were the ONLY plays that worked in the first half.. So it is evidenced there if you watch the gametape.

Had we kept that plan of the quick 3 step drop passes all over the field, it would have set up our run better later in the game.. And we wouldn't have gotten stuffed on our running plays.. It is evidenced by we had a little more room in the 3rd quarter running.. Now had we had longer drives in the 1st half with more quick passes in there, then the steeler D would have been very tired in the late 3rd quarter and 4th quarter.. But of course the dolphin coaching staff didn't do that,.

Maybe one day you'll realize when you have a QB coming off a major injury playing prime time on the road in a hostile environment who is rusty AND excited you start with the run.

Your game plan in 3-4 games from now against the Steelers, aye, would be the way to go. At home, yes, the way to go. Under the circumstances of last night's game, however, I must disagree.

Im cool with that but we should have won that game and we let it slip away.I hope we can put it away next time when we have the chance.I understand we need time to gell as a team but this loss could hurt us later in the year.We needed this win and we couldnt get it done.I will stay aboard the ship.Ive been rideing it for 31 years and counting.Maybe come playoff time we can get our revenge.Go Dolphins:dolphins:

Anybody who sits and judges who "real fans" are needs to step off their pedastle of righteousness.

What makes that statement ridiculous is that short quick passes are easier for a QB than the longer ones. Plus, C-pep is very good at quick passes off a 3 step drop.. You also forgot those quick passes were the only plays working for our offense, NOT the run .. So take a look at the game again in case you missed it the first time .. Pep looked extremely comfortable with it. So your point is moot..

What you fail also to realize is one of the points of the quick pass is to protect Culpepper.. On a 3 step drop he releases the ball quick negating any sack opportunities by the opposition.. And it covers our offensive line deficiencies because pass protecting for 2 or 3 seconds is the easiest of all plays for an O-line. When you add the fact we have good receivers, TE's and backs out of the backfield who are good at running after the catch, it makes this sort of playcalling a no brainer..

You play to your strengths when going against the best run d in the league. And that was our strength . We failed to utilize it fully, but instead ran the ball into a brickwall time and time again losing important plays that could have kept drives alive and our defense off the field.

To run with our offensive line, against the best run D in the league , and in a hostile environment is suicide.. As it was.. You can only run on that D if their D is somewhat tired.. And that was what we should have worked on earlier in the game (ie - to get them tired continuing the quick passes which were our only successful plays early in the game) .

The best plan of attack was to keep with the short passes early. That would have opened up the deep passes later because the defensive backfield would have to come up to play tighter, thus opening more room deeper down the field. And then later would have really opened up the running game and we would have easily ran to victory.

This is how the Steelers played all last season, they led the league in rushing attempts in 2nd halves and passed alot more in the first half, mostly short passes. So dont tell me it cant be done on the road when the steelers played all their playoff games on the road in hostile environments with that exact gameplan.

Passing first to set up the run has also been done before with the "west coast" offense, with numerous teams..

Timing was also an issue this game between Culpepper and the WRs. The back-to-back INTs were both half-second late throws on crucial drives. The first pick was a half-second late for CC, which IMO would have been 6 points. He had nothing but lawn to mow in front of him. The next throw on the following drive is a finger-tip 6 pick to Porter, a half-second late throw to Welker in the middle for what would have been a huge gain. Porter juggles the ball on his finger tips for about a half-second in his hands....Ballgame. Another example of timing on the WRs side, is the TD pass that CC dropped by the front pile-on during the 3rd(?) quarter. He didn't expect that ball to get to him so quickly, and the pass ate him up. Once these guys get on the same page, its going to get REAL fun, REAL quick. Sit back and watch what happens when things start to work. I, for one, am strangely more excited about a loss then I've been after game 1 wins of the past. Oh, those poor, poor bills. They're in for a pounding this next game.
