A Wanny thread

I defended Wanny for a while. I was fifteen, give me a break! My reasoning was that if the colts had beaten Denver we'd have been a playoff team.
My, was that reasoning flawed. In 2002 and 2003 we had every chance to be a dominant team and yet there were so many games when we just didn't stand a chance. Not because Fiedler wasn't throwing right, or because we missed tackles on defense, but because the other team would know exactly what to do against us. We were predictable because of 'Pornstache' and I didn't understand that then. He reached a plateau of being slightly above average (9-7, 10-6) but never did anything with it.

i liked wanny at first...we won the division at 11-5...something jj never did...but i wanted him and the whole coaching staff fired after that debacle in new england(2002)...ricky rushed for 185 yards and we had an 11 point lead with 4 minutes to go...we miss the playoffs and the f%^&*$n jets won the division...here was wannys big problems...too conservative on offense...stuck with fiedler way too long...his schemes were way to vanilla...ran ricky way too much...but the players loved him and we should not hate him...just be happy we got saban...

I just went back tru the archives lookin' at old threads and whatnot and not a single person had a bad thing to say about wanny? thats funny seeing as he treated like the plague now. I say the man got a raw deal & did the best he could with what he had(not 2 say someone else could'nt have done better) and keep in mind wanny in a way IS still w/ us at MARINO's almamadder and wouldnt it be nice if wanny groomed us "THE NEXT MARINO"

Him being at Marinos alma mater doesnt mean he is still with us in any way that's just silly. I rooted for Marino and the Dolphins, not Pitt.

gimmie a break, Wanny couldn't find the "next Dan Marino" if he was hiding in his mustache!

Wanny hands down is a bad head coach and a good Defensive Co-ordinator he should never be a head coach and he should never scout anyone. Proven draft picks and don't ever say he could find the next Marino

then you didnt look very hard. do a search for my username...I would guess about 10% of my posts have something bad to say about Wannabe.

As for Wannabe finding the next Marino....
This is the guy that felt Jay Fiedler was a better option than the ORIGINAL Dan Marino. He was so enthralled with Fiedler that he stuck with him for over 4 years. He's also the guy that traded a 1st round pick to Seattle for Rick Mirer.
Yeah, Wanny has a great eye for QBs and will probably groom us "The Next Marino"

Jimmy buffered the transition to Wanny

And in my opinion is as much responsible for the demise of the franchise as wanny. He did not use good judgement in recommending Wanny, and Wayne was burned in loyality to Jimmy's judgement. It was a multi faceted line of blame for what happened. It was like depending on a vanilla package as a strategy for the next four years. I will be very interested to see Pitt this year.

Wanny tried to be everything to everyone, but I don,t think he was a bad coach(then again that is the definition of a bad coach) wanny really believed what he was doing was right and he refused to change. Run the ball and if you get in trouble let the defense win the game for you.

It would be nice if Wanny could groom that nasty a$$ 'stache of his.
We already know he can't tell a quarterback from a quarterpounder.

I supported him the first 2-3 years he was here. I had felt (at that time) that he failed in Chicago because of intrusion by Mike Mckaskey.
His problem wasn't that he was conservative (many successful coaches have been), it was his inability to make halftime adjustments and manage a close game.
I realized he was a poor coach 3 seasons ago. RW led the league in rushing, JT led the league in sacks and they had a top 5 defense. They were in a position to win the division (9-5) with 2 road games against teams with losing records (Minn. and NE). They were in control in both games, but the team imploded in the 4th quarter. They finished 9-7 and were out of the playoffs. It was a waste of a teams talent. They severely underachieved (the mark of poor coaching).

I have an excuse for not being in the archives dissing Wanny way back when...I just became a member last summer. With that said....he did a good job record- wise but he never seemed to have the fire to get us to the next level (Superbowl)...a great coach would have gotten us to the SB once or twice during the past 5-10 years, especially with all the talent we had.
