A: Who is Luke McCown?

are you guys talking about why jax let garrard go??? they released him to get out from that awful money for the final year of his deal...no brainer to me...garrard said he was dumped but i'm sorry you got a salary # that high and your pretty average to begin with and teams would want to get out from under you also...see denver with kyle orton

now i don't know when in relation to him getting injured this all went down but i would say that they probably were planning on offering him a pay cut option to stay and reduce his final year of his contract salary to a much more palatable # but once the doctors got wind his back was toast and he was likely gonna be out for the year they just decided to part ways and save all that money on salary....my guess is if he had been healthy he would have stayed in jax at a reduced rate and they would have sat gabbert behind him to start the year...the back probably just accelerated the offer a paycut to lets flat out move on...

b/t garrards been a guy even prior to last year who while he has suited up just about all the time he's been dinged up in season...pretty normal to have him nursing something to my recollection

I think part of the reason why McCown "won" the job is because cutting Garrard saved the Jaguars $9 million last season. Also probably had something to do with his back injury that eventually caused him to have surgery. Assuming Garrard wins the job, he is only a stop gap until they turn things over to Tannehill. If Garrard is healthy though he can play pretty good, not great, but pretty good. He actually had pretty good seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Whats the date a player has to make it to before he can collect his full salary for the year if he is injured and cant play?

Do yourself a favor and mark that time down. Its right around then when David Garrard will have an "injured back" again and not be able to play. Ive seen it a million times. Its no different than the bums who take workers comp when they are more than capable of working. When teammates say he got "fat and happy" thats telling you the guy is in it just for the money and could care less about competing and winning.

Dont be shocked when he does it to the phins and collects that check. He could be injured this season and use all the hype the phins have given him about how he has had a great camp to get himself another contract next year from a different team and pull the same garbage.

Dude just wants to ride his water skis. He isnt interested in playing football. Why do you think he didnt comeback last season? He came back this year to get one last check, maybe two if he gets a good endorsement from our coaches.

Watch it happen. Dont say I didnt warn you. David Garrard will troll the **** out of you if you let him. It was a huge mistake to ever bring this guy in. And if we do something really stupid like trade Matt Moore before Garrard gets injured, that leaves us with Tannehill to start, which is fine by me, but it leaves us with no real backup at all. But, David Garrard wont care about that. He will collect his check and chill on his boat. Im just tryin to tell you.

 so much wrong with this post

1. You are entitled to your theories (no matter how ridiculous they are)
2. You speak like you are close to Garrard. Actually, you speak like you spent time in his head.
3. You cannot possibly make a claim that he "isn't interested in playing football" just because you have this feeling
4. At what point in time did Garrard slap your mother, **** your girlfriend and stiff you out of 10 grand?
5. If he is atop the depth chart, it is because he earned it. You can't act like you are playing well. Either you are or you aren't.
6. What is your goddam beef with jetskiis? They are craftily made machines that let you glide over the water fast as ****.

Thank god we have multiple threads highlighting this ridiculous theory. Why on earth does Denver want Peyton Manning? Don't they realize that he was cut for a ROOKIE QB in Andrew Luck!?

It's the exact same logic. I'm starting to think David Garrard banged your wife or ran over your dog. No matter. Best of luck with this type of stuff FinHeaven!

Q: The man who beat out David Garrard for a starting QB position the last time that Garrard was in the NFL.

How quickly people forget. :ponder:

You guys seriously want your starting QB to be a guy who got outplayed by Luke McCown? :idk: And this is the guy you think is better than last years team MVP Matt Moore or a prospect that had a top 10 grade like Tannehill. Get Real.

And Jimmy Clauson took the starting job from Matt Moore so does it really mean anything. Matt Moore was also cut
by the Dallas Cowboys and if he earns the starting job I could care less as long as he plays well. Im not a fan of Garrard or Moore but him being let go by Jville has nothing to do with right now.

Why do we have to make decisions before the bullets fly for real starting tomorrow? If he is the best guy to play then let him play.

I like the guy. Besides, he got screwed in Jacksonville. Tell me they would not have been better off with Garrard compared to Gabbert and McCown?

Money may have had something to do with it, but if it were just over money, they would have at least attempted to resturcture his deal if they truly wanted him. Gene Smith is on record saying thet they didnt even attempt to trade him or renegotiate his contract, and also said the decision to release Garrard was a "pure football decision".

For those of us who live in the Jax market, its no secret that Del Rio and fans had become very unhappy with Garrards inconsistenty, hence the Blaine Gabbert pick. Garrad couldnt even get elected team captain by his teammates, getting beat out by Mereceds Lewis. Garrard didnt have his coach, teammates, or fans behind him. He wasnt just cut over money. Dont just watch the Garrad highlight reals or stare at his stats page on ESPN, go actually watch a few games of his and come back and tell me if you are impressed with his play...

Every 3-4 months WVDolphan shows how annoying he is with lame QB threads that are extremely biased and showcase him as a hateful person with too much free time on his hands.

This is one of those threads.

Point is, David Garrard is garbage. Luke McCown, Josh McCown..... not good either way.

I think a QB who is garbage would equate to having a losing record and throwing more interceptions than TDs. Yet, Garrard is 39-37 as a starter and has a 89/54 TD/int ratio. Outstanding? No, but garbage...come on man.

There are lots of QBs that were good, but for whatever reason they arent as good when they reach 34. Players arent good forever, and people in Jacksonvile seemed to think last year was it for Garrard. I guess we will find out tomorrow night...

I wonder how many more threads WV is going to make letting us know he hates David Garrard? :ponder:

Not your usual post at all, Nublar: disappointing.

IF any QB is really a topshelf NFL QB, or even in the top 1/2 of starting NFL QBs, you don't cut him to save $9 Million. You extend, restructure, ask for a hometown discount, whatever...and cut elsewhere.
