We are needing to replace two of the positions that relate mostly to on the field production, head coach and starting QB. We are a year late. This should have been done last offseason. The candidates for both of these are very underwhelming, Now consider the options last offseason.

Head Coach:
Matt Nagy
Matt Patricia
Frank Reich
Pat Shurmur
John Gruden
Mike Vrabel

Quarterback:
Josh Rosen
Lamar Jackson
Baker Mayfield
Case Keenum
Kirk Cousins
Teddy Bridgewater
Alex Smith
Josh Allen
Sam Darnold
Nick Foles

Its easy to say in hindsight. That coaching group didn't look that special at the time. Coaches are hard to evaluate and it's even harder to know how to find a great one.

The QB class is definitely way weaker. Though Nick Foles is back on it again as is Bridgewater. And now you can throw Flacco on there too. It's just the rookie class is awful.

I mean it's only underwhelming for the fans because we don't really know better. Bill Belichick, Doug Pederson, Pete Carroll, John Harbaugh...none of these were looked at as great hires at the time.

Your QB list is different especially Keenum, Cousins, Bridgewater, and Foles. I would consider them equally as under whelming as any free agent this year.

At the time I was singing Baker Mayfield's praises, and I stick by that. Those coaches look better than what we're seeing this year, but there's still no Sean McVay in either group, IMHO.

We are three years late. They should have never extended a failed QB, and should have drafted Wentz, if they could not get to Goff for example.

But, that is why they are fired, because they did not care about the QB position, and they also did not care about the defense. Defensive coordinators moved in that span, and they did nothing.

There are QB's to be had and headcoaches too...

Additionally there are still headcoaches and QB's that will come available. No there are no surefire candidates but there rarely are. Look at when we passed on Drew Brees.

The thing I hate the most about Finheaven, and sports media in general, is this group think mentality where one person says something and the entire peanut gallery becomes fixated and subscribes to that notion as the "the truth." Like how people this season keep saying "Next year's rookie QB class looks horrible for the upcoming draft." And now no one wants to even imagine drafting a QB, or a QB high in the draft. Please stop believing everything you read, specially from people who are often times wrong about the very thing they are talking about.

Make sound judgements on the things you observe, that are your opinions based on your assessment of the field, don't just keep repeating what you heard from someone else, and if you do, at least have the stats or decency to back it up with factual or empirical data.

yeah i dont sleep at night because we skipped out on Alex smith and gruden

Idk, there’s Haskins, there’s Dwayne Haskins, Haskins, and that one dude Dwayne Haskins.

In hindsight, we should have looked for a new QB several years ago and allowed the new coach (I assume that would still be Gase) to pick his QB in the draft. Maybe things would have been different.

Colts are in such great shape.

There's always a Sean McVay. A young, up and coming assistant who can fill the coveted 'offensive playcaller' role who has the rare ability to be a good head coach. I think that particular sort of guy has a real appeal now specifically just because they're in demand; it creates more demand, like a recursive loop. You know that if you have a good offensive guru / playcaller type, somebody's going to come grab him. So you want to get him as your head coach first in order to avoid losing him. That's why Kliff Kingsbury just got the Cardinals job. Fired by his alma mater and suddenly head coach of the Cardinals? Wow, man. Wow.

But I think there's always, always one of those guys somewhere in football. It's just really dang hard to actually identify them. Dolphins have made an interesting choice in trying to find the next Mike Tomlin (i.e. up and coming defensive coach) instead of the next Sean McVay. Hope it works.

There was no hindsight needed, some of us have been saying the current QB was not good enough for years. The team did nothing to address it.
