I haven't heard anything about Franchise Tagging OV, I know the cap hit is high (12-15 mil I believe) but would it be worth tagging him to lock him up for at least one more year and see if he keeps improving. At the very least use the transition tag and have an opportunity to match the new contest he gets offered. Typically with talented young players hitting the market I hear about the possibility of franchise tag but haven't heard it mentioned with OV just curious on your guys thoughts?

let him go cost someone else 10+ million. Especially with Suh already sucking up half our cap we cant afford a huge contact for a good but not elite player on the d line.

Dude also has to sort of his dirty plays

The thought of losing one of our best players (when we don't have many) scares me though

I want to keep him especially since Wake could very well be done. Mitchell could be cut, and were pretty much left with just Phillips and Suh as our current and future Dlinemen. And without Vernon, you potentially lose your only pass rusher.

But his price is going to be scary, ots not an easy call.

If it's only 10 million I'm jumping on that deal. Cut/restructure Wake and cut Mitchell and that pays for Vernon.

Vernon should be a high priority re-sign despite what some of Finheaven will tell you. I would expect a franchise tag.

Tagging OV. Dumb move letting him walk. You don't let pass rushers walk out the door.

Problem with OV is that he's a mid-level athlete, so his production is almost sure to fluctuate a great deal (best-case scenario). All the elite edge players are also elite athletes, and while Vernon has done well to come as far as he has, his production has been predictably inconsistent. Can't pay that type of player that type of money. Let someone else make that mistake.

Not to question his effort, but he also turned it up predictably in the 2nd half of a contract year. The problem I have with the tag, is it becomes the starting point for negotiations - and that makes things rough.

He's good . He's not great . If he wants " great " money , let him go pla in Cleveland or Jacksonville .

He makes dumb plays that's costs us games. I like him but don't love him . That's how the organization should feel while in contract negotiations

We have to sign him back.

I think with our cap situation, his up and down play, and questionable penalties....let him get paid elsewhere. Restructure Wake, Sign Shelby, and draft his replacement at #8.

What about transition tag? That way atleast get some compensation if he does sign with someone else.

JDoll won this thread already.

OV is a pretty limited athlete. Doesn't have a large Arsenal of moves and isn't explosive enough to consistently to blow plays up. Struggles on run support and has a stupid urge to hit a qb late way to much.
