Abramson: Dolphins to seek "upgrade" to Miller, notes on Tannehill, Jordan, D. Thomas

my god has the tide turned on Miller.

Whilst he's no Barry Sanders, replacing Miller is definitely not the priority here.

Please solidify the oline and give him a chance before you throw Miller under the bus.

Miller was so overrated just because he went to miami for college good to see that bubble burst he was ****e last season, couldnt break a tackle to save his mothers life.

Rotational change of pace back - will never be more

Not unlike Barry Jackson's latest set of rumors, this sounds to me like grumbling from the personnel department about the coaching staff. Interesting nonetheless.

If Miller gets the carries he will be an above 1000 yard rusher. He had some 170-180 carries this year. Top rushing backs get 250-300 rushes per season. His average on the season is 4.0/carry. And since Tannehill gets the benefit of the doubt with the OL so should Miller. Improve the line, give him the carries and he will be easily above 1000 yards and close to 1500 yards per season. Can he run for a better average of 4.0? You bet. In his limited duties in 2012 he had an average of 4.9/carry.

In the last game against the Jets he rushed for 77 Yards for a 4.3 y/c average on 17 carries against a D which allowed only 88 yards per game for an average of 3.4 y/c. The Jets D is #3 against the rush. If you give Miller the opportunity he will get his yards

A RB needs carries to be effective. He carried the ball only 5 times for 15 or more times. His averages in these games are: 4.9, 6.5, 3.3, 4.1, 4.3
But he also had 10 or less carries in 9 (!!!!!) of the games. His averages were: 0.3, 7.8, 2.1, 4.8, 0.3, 4.3, 0.8, 3.3, 2.7.

We faced 3 of the top 10 rush defenses last year. In 2 of them he rushed above what they allowed (Jets 2nd game and Bengals) in y/c.
My suggestion: dump Thomas and get a good back up for Miller and let him at least have a chance to be the featured RB. WE are ready to toss a guy out who didn't even had a chance yet.

You really don't know much about Miller and the University of Miami.
He wasn't overated because he played for the U. He was the first running back at the U to rush for over 1000 yards in a season since 2002 (McGahee).

And since you are not that familiar with the U of Miami. In the last few years this program is in shambles and rather plays 2nd or 3rd fiddle nationally. They have not produced a pro bowl RB since Gore was drafted in 2005.

He was overrated by many dolphin fans because he went to the u, hell apparently we are even meant to interview gm candidates because they went to the U

I think the people that gave miller such high expectations were the fantasy experts and it snow balled from there. There were a lot of people actually enthused with our Oline roster before the season started.

I would like to sign a vet for cheap in FA and also draft a RB in the later rounds. Thomas needs to go, trade him to what ever team Sproano is at, and get anything for him. We cant go into 2014 with the same RBs, no matter how much more improved our Oline is.

Gerhart will actually be 27 in March, but regardless this is a guy who's never had more than 109 carries in a season and has only carried the ball 86 times over the last two years combined. Age is age but just in terms of wear and tear he should still have a good amount of tread left on the tires after have gone through a grueling college career.

In terms of production.... the great Adrian Peterson has averaged 5.0 yards per carry for his career. Toby Gerhart has averaged... 4.7. Not that big a difference, though in my experience you generally see a higher ypc when a guy has fewer carries. Also, though I'm sure people will point out -- rightly -- that Peterson is a below average blocker and pass receiver and teams can key on him when he's in the game, it's not like Gerhart scores all that well as a blocker, either. PFF has consistently rated him as being mediocre.

AGREE! Gerhart would absolutely steal all Millers and DTs carries -> he hit the hole hard and has good vision, very minimal wear on the tires

we should have never trusted miller/thomas to be the starting rbs this year. It was a position of need prior to the 2013 season. There have already been rumors of philbin not being comfortable with martin at lt and being denied additional help at ot, so i'd love to know who made the call on going into the season with miller and thomas as our rbs. These guys were awful.

jefff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it is just this time of the year when the realists are the posters on this board. By the time we get to pre-season, the homers will be back telling us how great Miller will be with a fixed OL and how "we don't know football." Book it...

Miller is just another player this staff could not get to improve.
