Watching games again I can't believe people actually think Tanny is a bad 2nd year qb.
I see some inconsistencies, but not just bad plays.

I recognize the offensive line play was terrible but Miller hardly ever breaks tackles. Not a trait you want in your main back. Unfortunately he's looking more and more like another Felix Jones... a running back that teases due to the size/speed combo only he breaks tackles like a 165 pounder rather than a 215 pounder. One wonders if Ireland just looked at his weight and decided that was what breaks tackles. I don't mean that as sarcasm, btw. If you look at 230 pound Daniel Thomas it's the same mistake.
Both of them have great feet and I'm sure look wonderful in drills. But if you're never going to break a tackle you better have absolutely stunning feet and great vision, and neither Miller nor Thomas has ever been accused of having those.
I've advocated Toby Gerhart in a few threads and still think he's the best option in free agency. His reputation has been sullied over the years because he looks poor on the hoof compared to a transcendent talent like Peterson but if you look at his production compared to Peterson it's not as stark as you'd think. The guy can play.

I heard Abramson talk on the conference call with Bill Lazor... god he sounds like the biggest nerd ever... No way this guy ever played sports.. not even trying to be mean.. but man...
You basically have two camps of people:
1. QB is part of the problem.
2. QB is part of the solution.
It's just the nature of these things that the positions gradually evolve and become:
3. QB is the worst in the league and the team around him is great.
4. QB is going to be a great one but he's being held back by garbage.
I've accepted the fact that in order to have a conversation on this board, my position #2 has become position #4. I've also accepted that sometimes, someone is going to invent a position #5 for me, type up several paragraphs trying to rebut that position, and then never, ever click the thread again.![]()
Lazor played football at Cornell before graduating in 1994. He was a three-year starting quarterback and graduated with 26 passing and total offensive program records.
Tannehill is not without flaws and blame but for people that think he is the only thing holding us back they are quite mistaken.
Quite? Its an vehement condemnation of lack of football IQ. I may come across as pompous with statements like that but the affirmation is straightforward, unembellished, and accurate.
It can also be a simple case of bias. Someone that was averse to drafting Tannehill will most likely harbor resentment and nothing short of a Super Bowl victory will reverse such sentiment.
As an impassioned fan, I am embarrassed to hear or read fans spew bile about Tannehill even if its merely at the water-cooler. You must either be a self-loathing fan or have an agenda. Either way, it makes the collective look poorly.
However, I will concede that if behind a stable offensive line Tannehill cannot make a stride forward in regards to hitting the big play/Wallace, we will be forced to begin exploring other options for competition. I'll give him a pass on sometimes holding the ball too long because game-managing by avoiding forced throws/interceptions can win football games. But if a QB cannot hit the big play in this NFL, his team will never truly contend.
Using a 2nd-to-4th round pick for a running back wouldn’t be a surprise
