Abramson: Soliai in Discussions with Fins

Here is the possible problem. If you turn out the GM to the scouts, all the work they have done leading into May is gone with them. So you either hire someone that has been following the college ranks or keep these guys on until after the draft.

bingo, hello mcfly!!! Dude has been working on these guys and then suddenly he takes his work to Jerry Jones in Dallas.....whats the new guy got?

once again, not defending Ireland, but common sense if you think about the big picture. If Gaines takes over though and we keep all the scout team, then maybe different. but then Ireland knows everything that we are thinking. Thats value to some team. And trust me, every team is looking for an angle.

Jeff ireland never drafted a bust first rounder. Many Many others have. Long, Odrick (ok injured first year), Pouncey, Tannehill, Jordan (he is a bust in his first year but bigger sophomore year expected).

WHY? Why would you keep someone through a draft and then fire them? I have no idea what you saying. You bring in a new GM to start building how he wants or you just keep bringing Ireland along. That would be like hiring someone like Mike McCoy who lucked into the playoffs and will probably fail as a coach.

On soliai, based on what I have seen these last few games, I am not sure I wouldnt just draft a guy in the fourth round....just like he was drafted and pray Francis comes alive.

I certainly wouldnt go 5 years.

Like Ireland's scouting reports are worth a damn, I could have made better picks just reading the draft forum and watching a few youtube vids...

IF your GM has been in the trenches of looking at college players all year, then yes, you could fire Ireland and replace him. However, if he has not, you cannot can all of your FO.

Here is a idea let a random fan pick for us different fan in wash round! It's better then keeping Ireland and a sure way to improve our rounds 2-4 selections!

I seriously wish they'd do some kind of promotion where they just turned over like the round 3 pick or something to a guy like Ted Slimm or CK or hoops. I can pretty much guarantee it'd be our best third round pick in 30 years.

Roy, seriously, if people could do that, GM's would be a dime a dozen.

Get this done. Soliai IS our run defense an d a great pocket pusher/space eater/double team commander. At this price just get it done quickly.

Next step is to lock up Grimes and re - sign Clemons who had a solid year.

Looks like alot of people are going to be disappointed that he stays. He reminds me a lot of C. Peterson when you ask KC fans about him.

So what you are saying is let Ireland draft his players and keep him for another year? Why? How many more losing seasons do you want?

Keeping Ireland because it might cause disruption in the scouting department is illogical. Using that logic, no GM would ever be fired.

Extrapolate that hypothesis and no coach would ever be fired, no player would ever be cut.

There would always be inaction due to the perceived risk of some upheaval that would warrant the status quo.

A few things...I would turned Ireland and Sparano out after the 2010 season. So, if I was the owner, he would have been gone a long time ago.

With that said, I am tired of people thinking the answer is canning the GM. After the Pats game in Week 15, everyone thought this was a playoff bound team. The players were good enough to make the playoffs and up end the Pats. Yet, after two clunkers to finish, the players are not good enough? Sorry, the last two weeks was on coaching, starting with the guy at the top.

If you can the GM, then allow the new one select his new coach...one with the same vision.

BTW, I am saying you keep him and his staff through the draft and after start transitioning people out....it is at least a method of transition.
