Abramson: Soliai in Discussions with Fins

anyone who wants starks over paul is crazy. go watch yesterdays game. randy was taking plays off, and completely stopped playing on the first td. paul came in the 2nd half and the run was shut down for the most part. get the deal done

Keeping Ireland because it might cause disruption in the scouting department is illogical. Using that logic, no GM would ever be fired.

Extrapolate that hypothesis and no coach would ever be fired, no player would ever be cut.

There would always be inaction due to the perceived risk of some upheaval that would warrant the status quo.

That is fine, BUT you have to hire a guy currently with a franchise that is working within personnel in some regard.

Of course, you can find a new GM, but it has been done A LOT prior to this situation to allow the current GM finish through the draft and transition to another regime.

somethine we should have been to begin with, if the DC knew what personnel he had..
I would run to sign that deal. It is so fair. PLUS, signing Paul gives you and option of going to a 3-4 if it floats your boat.

I guess where I am coming from is while I am not an Ireland supporter, I think he gets waaay too much criticism of how this season turned out compared to the man leading the team on Sunday's. Joe Philbin did a lousy job this season.

If you want Ireland out, you should demand Philbin go as well. No shotgun marriages with Philbin and a new GM.

eh, IMO Ireland deserves more criticism. Ireland spend his first 5 picks in the 2013 draft, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd & 3rd on players who (aside from Jordan who was not used when he should have been-which is in the inept DC) did not contribute at all.

I'm into signing big Paul. A good nose is very hard to find. Though Louis Nix is one of my favorite players in this draft, gotta hold onto the strong nose tackle when you can.

A few things...I would turned Ireland and Sparano out after the 2010 season. So, if I was the owner, he would have been gone a long time ago.

With that said, I am tired of people thinking the answer is canning the GM. After the Pats game in Week 15, everyone thought this was a playoff bound team. The players were good enough to make the playoffs and up end the Pats. Yet, after two clunkers to finish, the players are not good enough? Sorry, the last two weeks was on coaching, starting with the guy at the top.

If you can the GM, then allow the new one select his new coach...one with the same vision.

BTW, I am saying you keep him and his staff through the draft and after start transitioning people out....it is at least a method of transition.

Yeah, thought....but are we? NO. We are sitting at home yet again. Surprise, surprise. So lets have Ireland draft a team where he has the potential of bombing the draft. If that happens we have another wasted year. Why would we transition this team. You sign a new GM or you promote one. You don't fire a GM after the draft, that is beyond stupid.

Evaluate a draft two or three years later.

To be fair the 2012 draft was pretty good. Tannehill, O.V., Miller and Matthews contributed this year. Jon Martin is a Red X against him. However, '12 was a good draft.

We somehow beat the AFC East, North and South division winners and throw in the Chargers..had Carolina....but look at who beat us...is it the GM? the coach? I think I know where you stand...I am still just here SMH...I guess we are just "average".

Oh yeah .... I've said it before. I'm for a total and complete cleansing. Like that juice kind you get before a colonoscopy.

I hear you, but this draft he had nine picks and it doesnt look like he got anything out of it. I mean all of Irelands first 5 picks didnt contribute anything meaningful at all. Thats the first 5 picks. I know not all teams draft all that good but I think every team lands at least one player that contributes with their first five picks.

2012 was a VG draft and I thought it was at that moment. 2013 was a very horrible draft.

I thought they both were quite frankly. Starks definitely took the year off though. soliai comes out on third down. He has to come cheaper.

Tannehill had a 100 passer rating during the win streak to get us back in contention and a 40 passer rating the last 2 games, that is the reason we lost and that is actual measured data that you can point to, as opposed to 'we lost so the team must have been flat...'. What we need is talent around him to withstand the down games like what the Bengals have around Dalton. If we would have just traded for Brandon Albert we probably would have already clinched the playoffs before week 16 and would have been playing for a bye in all likelihood, like I was saying the week of the Patriots win and have been saying all along.

Just a quick note; firing a GM and having nothing about the next draft class to work with.

Horse Hockey

There are third party scouting services available for hire. The trick is whether or not the incoming GM is comfortable with using them.

Outlads and Optimal are a couple I believe Irish has used.

Nice. Theres a great decision maker for ya.. Lets pay the scouting staff a salary WHILE ALSO hiring scouting consultants at the same time. Yeah. Great way to run a business Mr. GM
