The displeasure was apparent in both the players and coaches. The Dolphins’ defense only played a couple of series against Tampa Bay last Thursday, but it was wrapped in disappointment and frustration after the Bucs put together a long touchdown drive on their opening possession.

The biggest disappointment, though, was a lack of urgency. Much of the intensity defensive coordinator Matt Burke has seen on the practice field was simply not apparent. Even a few days later, Burke was still angry.

He needs to be angry. This falls on his shoulders and his job is potentially in trouble if they don't play like they're urgent or care.

Those are good players to focus on but I'm also looking at that D-line. Want to see how the DT's do tonight. Also, would like to see some resemblance of a pass rush which wasn't there last week. Of course the D-line needs to be disciplined or Newton will take off and hurt our defense that way. I'm hoping for the best from this defense but not holding my breath at this point.

Since last year, it's always the players. Why can't it be Burke? Just because he's a D C, who got the job because his boss left. We didn't bring anyone in to interview for the DC.
In MY opinion, the guy seems arrogant, and that he believes he deserves to be where he is. I'm not so sure he has done anything impressive except for the Pats game where he brought stunts, blitzed and man coverage. But that's one game.
I have been looking for a string of games put together where the defense is scary good. More man, more S blitzes, all those things other teams do to shake it up a bit.
Maybe Burke has the players he wants, maybe they understand the intricacies of the scheme.
I'm hoping for the best. My opinion could definitely be misguided, but this season must show what he and the defense has.
Just like the offense, you can't keep saying season after season how you need the right guys. You have to play with what you have and make it work.

I suspect almost no one excludes Burke. Most blame players AND Burke AND the assistants. All of them have something to prove.

I'm not going to defend the DC but at the same time I hate blaming one coach for it. I have a hard time believing that if we got a new DC all of a sudden we'd have a great defense with the same players. At the end of the day he has to coach but the players need to do their part too.

They actually played press coverage in the Pats MNF game. Every other game he had the cornerbacks play that soft zone crap and 10 yards off the receivers.

Defense has an uphill battle, for sure. New coach trying to perfect an outdated scheme with marginal talent. I'd expect a bumpy ride.

At least the best player wasn't released (as in, 0 compensation received). He has about the same hit with the new team as he does here. It costs the fins essentially the same to have our (not their) best defender play on a different team. Teams that do hilariously idiotic **** like this (spare me the 'they had no choice' routine. No one backed them into a corner but themselves.) typically aren't rewarded with positive results on the field. Just sayin.
