How will it all come together?

That’s always part of the uncertainty of a new season, but it’s never been quite like this for the Miami Dolphins. With 13 players added in the past week alone, with the youngest roster in the league and with so many changes in so many areas, it is time for a little clarity.
We’ll start getting just that Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens at Hard Rock Stadium.
See, we know what this team is trying to become longterm, building through the draft, spending money prudently, making decisions all predicated on sustaining success, not just dabbling in it for a season or two. But right now it’s about this team and this season and seeing how all the pieces fit.

I hope the guys listed aren't the nucleus of this team two years from now other than perhaps X, Minkah, Wilkins and Baker. The other guys might be decent as a supporting cast for a nucleus, but if that is the nucleus in 2021 the Dolphins are still in full rebuild mode.

"It is that potential that offers the most enticing prospects for this season. There is a nucleus in place here of young players with impressive upsides, young players who now form the foundation of this team for today and tomorrow. Go through the names: Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant at receiver, Kenyan Drake and Kalen Ballage at running back, Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe at tight end, Christian Wilkins and Davon Godchaux on the defensive line, Jerome Baker and Sam Eguavoen at linebacker and Xavien Howard, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Bobby McCain in the secondary. "

I'd go the other direction. If those "lesser" talents are still around in '21 that would be a really positive sign. Good teams find players like Eguavoen and aren't solely reliant on a bunch of first round picks to fill their ranks. We've seen how far a small nucleus of supremely talented players can take a team with no depth.

One of the main goals of this season has to be to find 5-10 players out of this mess of undrafted free agents and castoffs that the coaches are comfortable going forward with as starters. We know there is going to be another mass turnover next offseason but if they can find that "core" of solid contributors that's something to build a team around.

I'm not expecting much this season. But I hope to see improvement from week to week. The defense will be my focus most of the season, because that's where Miami has some talent to work with. The 13 players added over the week, are mostly special teamers and am looking forward to a very solid special teams unit throughout the year. Also many of the final 13 players added are for depth purposes and not sure how they'll fit in at the moment. The offense is another story. I don't think much of what is there, with the exception of Grant, Wilson and Williams. It appears on paper to be a very ugly group. And will probably be the source for much criticism. I don't believe Grier and company are done dealing and think it's going to be the norm moving forward in terms of trading draft capital to maneuver around.

Miami had a nucleus of Suh, wake, Jones, Tunsil, Drake. How did that work out?
I se two categories here - 'known' nucleus (X, MF, Drake, and 'unknown' - Wilkins, Baker, Eg, Williams, and others. If just a few of those 'unknowns' prove they're real, Miami is well on it's way to a good nucleus. Next year, priority is getting rid of the bottom-of-NFL players.

A great young nucleus that doesn't include a stud QB sounds like 8-8, 9-7, 6-10 to me!
