Came across an interesting article this morning. PFF did a series of reports on how far each team is away from Super Bowl contention based on the number of above good or elite players a team has on its roster. This is based on the notion that 40% of the players who get 250 or more snaps are rated good or elite. Right now they say the Fins are 8 players away and only have 5 players ranked as good or elite. The rankings they gave are below.

You can read the rest of the article here. http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/12179331/how-many-players-away-super-bowl-team

I see James in the bad category.......and I think I have seen enough.

Interesting thought process though.....thanks for posting.

Yeah, there are a few things I disagree with. Misi as good, Grimes as average, James as bad and mostly Wheeler as average. But that still doesn't change the fact this team is at least 5 players away from being SB contenders in this articles view point. My question to you is...how do the Fins get those players this offseason?

I think the positions that have to be addressed this offseason are OG, WR, MLB and DB. If they can upgrade those positions I think it will go a long way in making this team better.

i guess if you take that "how many players you need to reach a super bowl" stuff seriously then ok...i don't...

The Browns are a lot closer to the SB than the Colts or Cardinals according to this site.?

ok

I think it's a good idea to compare the overall talent of the Fins to that of other teams. It shows people just how far the Fins are from becoming SB contenders while not throwing most of the blame on the QB's shoulders. Sure a QB can raise the level of play of those around him but not to the extent of what people think. In the end it's normally the better team that wins when it comes to the post season.

Team wise, when comparing the overall talent of the roster, yes. Not so much when you factor in the QB play. Just imagine how much better the Browns would be with Luck or a healthy Palmer on their team.

Hit on the first two picks again and spend for two free agents and we are there. At least on paper.

The problem is we may be losing talent if they don't resign some FA's like Clay or decide to part ways with Wallace. More holes to fill.

Hopefully some of those in the average column can become good to elite next year.

RT, Miller, Wallace and then we pickup a few in FA.

Reshad Jones "elite"...their whole system is crap then...

uh-oh they listed Tannehill as average I guess they lost all credibility with a lot of people.

Many here do not care for PFF. The NFL has Grimes as the #28 CB, which is average. They have Misi at #7 at ILB which is better than good. They do not rank the OL but, James was very bad at LT, which counts for the year. PFF uses eyeball's and NFL uses stats. Yet, both seem to agree most of the time. FWIW.
