Actually I remember this and it's been that way since.

Those 6-4 Dolphins went into that late November game against the Broncos ranked as one of the NFL's best defenses, especially when it came to stopping the run.
Miami's stingy defensive front had spent years suffocating the opposition's rushing attacks, but in that Sunday contest against a finesse Broncos team, Gase's unit bludgeoned Miami's defense to a pulp using C.J. Anderson, who rushed for 167 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown.

On paper, it looks better than last year although there are still a lot of question marks.

I think there could be 6-8 new starters honestly. Three in the secondary, one at linebacker (Alonso) and maybe two on the defensive line (Williams, Phillips). Hewitt has a shot at weakside linebacker and Branch could essential start with Wake on the field a lot.

So much is riding on the secondary and you hate to see Jones not in camp at this point.

I think the philosophy of worrying about the pass first and foremost is good on paper, and would probably work great if robots were on the field, but in human football there is something wrong on a primal level with getting run on. The fans here were upset over our win over the Jags because they had a bunch of rushing yards, they were pouty despite the fact that we crushed them.

Then against the Jets we didn't crush them but held on for a tight win. Once again the fans were outraged over the rushing yards given up. You have to believe that, even though its completely illogical, that some or most of the players felt the same way.

So when Manning did his regular dog and pony show, while checking in and out of the perfect plays and completely shredded our defense at both running effectively and throwing TD passes in the endzone it was the straw that broke the camels back. The defense was demoralized and they were no longer buying the theory that if we limit the passing stats we will win, which was a tough sell at the best of times. Maybe even an impossible sell.

Plus, it didn't help that we were playing guys off the street (don't even remember the name of the CB playing for us that game) and that Jamar Taylor is an idiot.

That was such a hard loss for me... Was watching with a friend who is a huge Broncos fan. It definitely hurt to think our defense was so good only for everything to fall apart.

..So the Broncos ran at Wake consistently.

This is why it made sense to swtich Wake to become a situational pass rusher.

Keep Wake's legs fresh, so he can fully launch on obvious passing downs.

This underscores the importance of coaching, game planning, game adjustments and scheme. The Phins were undermanned in that regard for the past 4 years.

actually I wonder just what did Gase see in our D at the time to make him think they could run. Up to that point we had been good against the run. The other thing is how did Gase get Payton to agree to run more, since they were setting records that year. But the article did say they were having OL problems and didn't want Cam to tee off. I don't think I ever saw Manning run so much in a game until that point and stick to it. I guess I do have faith that Gase can adjust during the season, unlike we haven't in the past and kept doing the same thing even when we knew teams had figured it out.

Coyle needed a flipping stop or two and they win that game. Never happened.

You have to be able to figure out what a team is doing to you before you can get that stop, or change up the D and attack the the team.

Stopping the Broncos running game is always tough when your team has no LB's.

I was at that game in my companys suite. All Bronco fans but me. We were winning most of that game. That great defense was getting shredded by Tannehill. But the second half we could stop anything plus we could run out the clock. That one hurt.

Hopefully we can use the play where they ran a freaking double move on Jamar Taylor on 3 and 18. I also hope that other teams have started corners as bad as Jamar Taylor

Eeeeek that one did hurt...oh well...moving on!

Wasn't that the game where Jamar Taylor bites hard on the hitch route only for the wr to fake it and go deep on 3rd and like 15.. I remember screaming who cares just let him catch it and bring him down and get the ball back

I believe the word you're looking for is called effort, one player was hoping someone else made a play on defense. and on offense not sustaining drives on obvious downs, 3 and 1, and you're passing? o-line wasn't physical enough when the game mattered, and hoping that they would win instead of making plays to make sure that they win.
