Adam Gase: Lackluster Effort Against Bills Led To Changes

I went through the all-22 on this game with a fine tooth comb specifically looking for effort.

There were three culprits, IMO.

Ndamukong Suh - I still don't think cutting him was a good move. He's a dominant player and the team is worse for losing him. But just IN THAT GAME alone, his pass rush effort was really poor. He defended the run well, but he didn't attack as a rusher for most of the game. Now he might've been more in spy mode in regards to reigning in Tyrod Taylor, but he made zero progress as a pass rusher in that game.

Mike Pouncey - I don't know if this was effort, or just the fact that he can't play any more. Inability to practice, pain management, he lost the athleticism that made him an elite player once upon a time. I was really worried about keeping him here at that $9 million figure - glad that's not the case.

Jay Cutler - I mean, does anyone really care? 3 picks, 4 fumbles, dude had no interest in playing that day.

Now I was really keeping an eye on Jarvis Landry, and though I find him pretty over rated, I will never say a bad thing about his effort. Every play is the end of the world for him, so please don't think this is in reference to him.

His departure has more to do with his free lancing, uncontrollable emotions and ridiculous salary demands.

And then the same fans trash him for "giving up" on the season. He was in a lose-lose situation.

He tried to salvage a lost season and took a shot at someone he, an NFL head coach, thought gave us the best chance to win.
In a sense, but there's the perspective he either felt comfortable with Ryan's recovery in the '17 off-season or he was just oblivious (which I cant see being the case). It would be nice if a reporter could ask of him that conclusion why not draft or sign someone in FA when given those opportunities.

We can finally put that bug to bed...

Or, the doctor's said it was a judgement call and Tanney thought his knee would be alright. That said, I've never understood keeping Moore.

Ultimately, blame from those question decisions fall up Gase, & staff is where I think we're both getting at.

Yes, to both of these. Moore should have never been on the roster from the first injury to Tannehill if you didn't trust him. After he took over when Ryan went down and you were unhappy with him, that's when you get someone else. The problem with Cutler is the money. Many fans could tell you that he would not take us to the playoffs anymore than Moore would have when he was signed. We could still have Landry now if we wanted him or had more leverage in a trade. We could have signed Norwell. We might have been able to keep Suh. The other thing was I believe the locker room trusted Moore and when Cutler was brought it, there were some hurt feelings. Right or wrong, I believe this was reality. They didn't want to play for Jay.
Right on in so many ways. Moore set records in those games last year and gave up his body. Cutler throws the ball in the ground not to get hit. Whole different game.

Yeah. The team basically came right out and said it was the big fight (that he got Drake involved with) that made them realize he hadn't grown up at all.
