Ok...a bit of a longshot...right? Hes a rookie. The purpose of this thread is to discuss the odds of this happening, and what it would take for it to happen. I am not claiming that it WILL happen.
In 2006, a ROOKIE head coach in Sean Payton completely transformed an awful New Orleans Saints team and took them to the NFC Championship game. - He WON coach of the year.
In 2011, a ROOKIE head coach in Jim Harbaugh transformed an awful 49ers team and took them to the NFC Championship game. (5 years later) - He WON coach of the year.
In 2016 (maybe 5 years later is significant?)...could the next ROOKIE head coach in Adam Gase - transform (a not so terribly awful team) and take them into the playoffs and WIN coach of the year?
Its possible.
I can't help but think there is a little "by design" nature of the NFL...and I think that there has been an intitiative to make Miami a powerhouse again behind-the-scenes. Call it what you want...a conspiracy, whatever...but the bottomline is we have a young, incredibly intelligent QB, one of the most promising duos of WR's in the NFL, an offensive guru in Gase, and a defense that might actually live up to whats on paper...what strikes me as strange was the Laremy Tunsil drop...coincidence? fate? or orchestrated? Again...who knows. I refuse to believe that an industry where MILLIONS are dumped into organizations/players/etc. is not subject to being manipulated from time to time. But nonetheless, If Gase rallys the troops, and is truly a "young Bill Belichek" then his first year will be very significant either way. Its just the way it works. I feel an aura around our team very similar to the Saints/49ers of those years. I thought it was gonna happen with Nick Saban but it didn't....but this time I feel like we finally got our guy. I feel like were finally gonna turn the corner. The stars have aligned.
Now all that being said ----- VEGAS ODDS are 50:1. A $100 bet wins $5000.
I'd say that the odds of this bet are a LOT greater than the Phins winning the Superbowl - which has gone up to 65:1 from 60 around the draft. I don't know how they figure we got worse...but OK. The bottomline is with Gase winning coach of the year...we just have to make the playoffs in a dramatic fashion...

Marvis LEWIS!? They LOST the WILDCARD and he won coach of the year!? It doesn't take a superbowl contender. It just takes a legitimate reason. I think if Gase turns us around he will definitely be up for consideration.
This much is certain - the NFL has a HARDON for Gase....they truly hope he is their next big deal because they NEED a new story. The story of the Dolphins - with Tannehill possibly ascending to a top10 QB status and Gase's magic is too good for them to pass up. This means that during the season...if were doing well...the media will be all over it ---this increases the chances for a coach of the year IMO....
Right now I don't have the balls to throw down $100....but $20 to win $1000 sounds about right. If Gase gets us in the playoffs then this bet becomes suddenly VERY LEGITIMATE...
So, lets speculate...what exactly will it take to get him the win?
-- I think it all depends on Ryan Tannehill. If he enters the top10 club with his new WR corps and healthy O-Line then we all know his production is going to skyrocket. All of Tannehills successes will be attributed to Gase. This is essential to his win of coach of the year.
-- I think we will need to win the division personally. The AFC East is respectable enough, especially with the Pats, that if we can win this division...nothing else really matters IMO.
-- I think we will need to see career years for a number of our offensive personel.
-- I think just getting into the playoffs is good enough to have a legitimate shot personally...of course other teams storylines and successes will be a factor - but as I said ---the storyline of Gase is what sets him apart from the others ---being a rookie is definitely an advantage if he is neck/neck with another candidate.
EDIT: So who's with me? All these negative nancies responding aren't going to throw down any $ it seems like...even though I explained why its actually quite a good bet? Again -- Marvin Lewis won coach of the year with a team that lost the wild card!? Unbelievable. It CAN happen. This is not as much of a shot in the dark as a lot of other bets.
