It’s pretty exciting having a new coach with the Miami Dolphins. Fresh ideas. Great expectations. And then there’s that undefeated 0-0 record.

Where, though, do you rate the buzz level on Adam Gase compared to other coaches who have come this way since the departure of Don Shula?

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and coach Adam Gase watch Dolphins organized team activities this week in Davie. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

I’m talking about how many people you meet who are talking about the Dolphins with less than 100 days before the season opener, and how many times you have checked in to see what Gase is saying or doing at OTA’s, just in case he’s right about a lot of stuff and Miami is about to make some noise.
Here’s my list in order, from (A) South Florida is crazy-go-nuts over the Dolphins’ new direction to (Z) South Florida is stuck somewhere between ambivalent over what’s coming up and fast asleep in the midst of the offseason lull.

Sooner or later, if only by accident, this franchise needs to start winning again.

As we get closer to training camp, I'm getting more excited than I thought I would. Since Shula, I have only been absolutely pumped about Jimmy Johnson taking over. All the others were essentially dread(Wannstedt), curiosity(Philbin, Saban, Cameron) and ignorance(Sparano). Gase falls somewhere between JJ and Saban for me.

It's funny how good everyone looks compared to Philbin.

Yeah, this is one of the worst-worded headlines in sports news.

Pushes the needle. Really?

If they wanted to use this metaphor the author should've written "pushes speedometer" (which is still not really a good metaphor... probably should've been "pushes envelope" but writer had a brain fart).

I swear editing is a lost art form these days.

The English language is a lost art.

I have a good feeling about Gase, but that doesn't necessarily mean I expect him to win right away. Could happen, but I think a lot would have to break positively for Miami beginning with the running game.

Talent-wise, the Dolphins appear to be behind every team in the AFC East. Again, good coaching and player development might change that since Miami has a lot of young talent.

With one draft in the books, it looks like Gase is truly an offensive guy. Either that, or he correctly identified that the team sorely needed playmakers (other than Landry) on the offense. I was surprised that six of eight picks went toward offense in a year when the draft seemed loaded on the defensive side. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing if those offensive players pan out.

I was going to say isn't "pushing the needle" bad ?
