Dolphins coach Adam Gase doesn’t want quarterback Ryan Tannehill worrying about making mistakes.Gase said on PFT Live that his No. 1 priority for Tannehill in 2017 is to be willing to take chances, both with his arm and with his legs, if that’s what he has to do to make plays.
“Just be more aggressive,” Gase said. “I really want him to feel comfortable that his decision is going to be right. If he feels like something is not really happening the way he wants, escape from the pocket and not hesitate and worry about, Did I miss something? He’s a perfectionist so he wants to be able to stand back there and go through his progression, go one to two to his checkdown. Guys that have athletic ability, that can run, want to prove they can be a great pocket passer. All I care about is getting the first down and scoring points.”
Tannehill’s completion percentage was a career-high 67.1 percent in his first year in Gase’s offense, but Gase may be willing to see that number go down a little bit if it means Tannehill is taking more chances and making more plays downfield.

DVP's potential emergence will play a key role here. He's just got to stay healthy. The same goes for Julius Thomas. I think if both of those guys can stay healthy then Tannehill is going to surprise a lot of people next season.

i agree

You have to know when you can take those chances and the offense as a whole needed roughly an 8 week transition period to grasp Gase's conceptually based system in order for him to do so. He was just starting to settle when he got injured and will be more comfortable in year 2 of this system which should naturally lead to knowing when to be more aggressive.

Agree. Tannehill has a lot of weapons to work with. I do agree with Gase about Ryan using his legs more. That's a strength of his that hasn't been utilized to its full potential. I'm not just talking about taking off and scrambling, but moving to make plays like Aaron Rogers.

That Arizona game was on track to be his best yet

Plus Stills & Landry and the potential of a great running game. Hopefully the injury bug will not hit us like last year and we will surprise a lot of doubters.

I completely agree with this and Im glad Gase feels the same. At times, Tannehiill plays not to lose instead of playing to win. He needs to be a little bit more of a gunslinger. I do believe that is why he hold onto the ball too long sometimes or just takes a sack. Hopefully he will become more confident and trust his legs and arm more in the future. I liked what I saw last season though, hope he can build on that.

People do realize that Tannehill was told by Philbin & Co. to stay put in the pocket while we ran Lazor's rudimentary offense . . . right?

With comfort in the system, a center who can ID (not Pouncey) for the line, and receivers that are comfortable in the system the aggression will come more naturally.

I think Tanne having to watch Moore may be a blessing in disguise, watching another QB who attacked differently and threw some up to give the receiver a chance.

Tannehill was at the top of the league in deep passing. I don't think its an issue

Yikes. I hope he takes nothing away from watching Moore freelance due to being clueless.

IMO Philbin and his passive aggressiveness and control fixations did more harm to Tannehill's confidence than was realized.

What a load... he's Luck's problem now. We are well rid of him!
