Adam Schefter: " Tannehill will be Dolphins starter sooner rather than later "

i love the whole, "ohh no don't throw him to the wolves!!" gimmi a break. He's a man. He is playing in the NFL. He can handle it. If he can't. Then he shouldn't be a starter in the National Football League.

If he's ready, I'm all for it. He doesn't seem like the fragile type that might get "ruined" by getting tossed in too early.

Exactly....Andy Dalton probably had a lot less talent in Cincy and he did just fine last year. The Phins have a very solid o-line with Long. Pouncey and Martin....we may just need some upgrades at the Guard's spot. We are already 100% better without Columbo. If we are running Texas A&M's pro style west coast offense than Tannehill will be ready come day one.

As I've said a number of times I want him to start when two things happen.

1) He WINS the job by being better then Moore etc. I do not want him to be like Sanchez who was handed the job and never had a chance of losing it.

2) Our OL has to be able to protect him. It is hard enough to learn the NFL QB position without being pounded and chased from the pocket a good part of the time.

So to sum it up, I do not want to "Sanchez" or "Tim Couch" him.

But it will be very very hard considering where he was drafted not to start him.

I deal situation would be that Matt Moore gets us up by 25-30r more points buy the end of the 3th qtr and Tannehill comes in to finish those games........( I kind of do not see that happening very often, lol)

If that is what coach Philbin thinks is best, then I wouldn't disagree with it. Whatever will help Tannehill reach his peak sooner than later I'm all for. Of course, if this is not the quickest way to success for Tannehill, then it would be stupid to crown him starter.

Couldnt agree more that if hes better or equal to moore in camp he needs to start....as long as the line is progressing enough through camp/preseason not to david carr him. Hes already more familiar with the scheme and I highly doubt he learns much from moore who is not made for the west coast, or familiar with it yet and has no real vested interest in mentoring Tanny as hell be gone most likely following the year looking for a better starters needed situation.

we can't be there in practice and meeting sessions and evaluate these guys in person. if he's named the starter as a rookie, beating out two vets, well, that's saying something then. either way, the vets are just that bad or this rookie is that good, the coaches are going with the best man. you have to believe that.

even if hes not 100% ready, they can cut down the playbook a bit the first few weeks and game plan accordingly if they really think he's the guy right now.

Technically thats an easy statement to make, How soon is sooner? And how late is Later?

CHUBBYSPN: Chubby is reporting that Tannehill will indeed start this season.

Being a reporter is easy sauce.
Chubbs

Dolphins will indeed be forced to start Tannehill before he's ready....yep it is easy to be a reporter.

Disclaimer: No one at ESPN has a clue what "ready" means for a QB or what it takes for said quarterback to get there but we need something to talk about and Miami has been a target of ours this season so we'll just roll with it.

Anyone who actually wants Matt Moore to start over Tannehill is retarded.
Care to explain? I think Moore should start. He has experience, he played well enough down the stretch last year to earn the spot. Tannehill is the future and it would benefit him to sit.

Guess I'm retarded.

Nice try...
Not sure why the big rush to 10 posts but it's starting to get annoying seeing random spam sprinkled throughout the site.

On topic: Tannehill will probably open for us, I just don't see Matt Moore learning the playbook faster and that year Gerrard took off isn't going to help his case.

The Fins took Dan Marino at 23 (I think) and we took Tannehill at 8 this year.

Let him start if technically ready imo.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tannehill wins the job before week 1.

Only point for Tannehill to start would be to just get the live reps, take you lumps now and get past it. otherwise, sit a year, THEN try and get used to live game speed. (which you cant really simulate in practice) If he truly can handle it and knows the playbook now, then let's see what the kid's got. I can't make that call, the coaches have to roll the dice there. I also don't understand why people think you can ruin a QB by putting him in too early, like their confidence and self worth is so fragile or something. If the guy is that fragile mentally then I don't really need him on my team and I don't see them being that great a QB.

How do we know Aaron Rodgers would not be just as good if he didn't sit behind Favre? I mean, some guys just have it and some will never.

I'm thinking that if we have a sub par record around mid season then Tannehill will probably get thrown out there, unless he looks terrible in practice... Since we will probably have a pretty poor record, I'm guessing Tannehill gets a shot to start for at least 6 games this year.
