Last year's Browns were 4-12 and improved to 10-6. So why is it so crazy that we could be a playoff team and please don't retort with "we were 1-15, not 4-12" because when I see a team lose SIX GAMES by 3 points, I figure we weren't in reality as bad as we were on paper. Six games lost by 3 points means that a gust of wind going the other way a couple of times and we're 4-12. FURTHERMORE, a little research shows that a team went 1-15 and then ALMOST made the playoffs: The Jets went from 1-15 to 9-7 (a very possible play-off record) from the '96 to '97 season--one year.
A little more research finds these encouraging stories:
- '87-'88 Ravens went from 4-11 to 12-4 in one season.
- Colts went from two straight 3-13 seasons to 13-3 atop the AFC EAST back in '99 in a single year.
- Chargers went from 4-12 in '04 to 12-4 in '05. One season.
- Saints went from a 2005 3-13 record to a 10-6 record in 2006. One season.
- Rams 4-12 to 13-3 '98 to '99. Just one year.
Now. To all of you that are chanting PLAYOFFS I'm with you! This is why we play/watch the game, to root for our team to go the whole way!
To all the nay sayers, I say--I understand your skepticism, but let go of it, its much funner to dream! Besides, I've rationalized our good chances at a playoff run. If Brady is really injured, if Brett turns out to be a dud.... we already have a better team than the Bills... the AFC East has opened a window. There are tons of key injuries across the league. All I'm saying, if the preseason performances from our Dolphins are truly indicative of how good our team gels and of the possible talent we have.... a little luck, a little fan support and everything the sky is the limit.
No matter what any of you say, I won't stop chanting for the Dolphins to take it all every season!
