Here are the final 9 in contention with games left. Didn't see this anywhere but if there is a playoff thread you can merge it. I just think we should break it down since its December and we are in a playoff race!!!!!!!!

1) Titans: 11-1; Cle,@Hou,Pit,@Ind;
2) Steelers: 9-3; Dal,Bal,@Ten,Cle;
3) Jets: 8-4; @SF,Buf,@Sea,Mia;
4) Broncos: 7-5; KC,@Car,Buf,@SD;
5) Colts: 8-4; Cin,Det,@Jax,Ten;
6) Ravens: 8-4; Was,Pit,@Dal,Jax;
==============================
7) Dolphins: 7-5; @Buf,SF,KC,@NYJ;
8) Patriots: 7-5; @Sea,@Oak,Ari,@Buf;
9) Bills: 6-6; Mia,@NYJ,@Den,NE;

Tie breaking procedures can be found here

Thought I'd break down a great scenario where Pats and Jets could both miss the post-season at 11-5. I got a little help from the other site but here it is.

Its a little bit complicated but if our Dolphins win out and finish 11-5, it could create a 3 way tie with the Pats and Jets (assuming the Jets win all their games except the Miami game) we will be AFC East champions and at worst a #3 seed with our win against Denver propelling us ahead of them. That would possibly setup a playoff date against Baltimore or NE, with the Jets being eliminated at 11-5, that would be awesome.

The reason why we win the 3 way tie at 11-5 is to figure out the records vs common opponents which involes 12 games. The Patriots and Dolphins would be 10-2 while the Jets are 8-4 making them eliminated.

Both the dolphins and Patriots lost both of their non-common games for Miami that is (Hou,Bal) and the Patriots that is (Indy/Pitts). That would force the next tie-breaker to be used. Conference Record. If the Patriots win out, they'll finish unbeaten vs the NFC while we lost to Arizona. That means we would have a one game advantage in the conference.

If Indy, Miami, Denver, Baltimore, Patriots, Jets all finish at 11-5. I believe Miami would still be the #3 seed, and Denver the #4 seed. Not sure how the other 4 would play out. It would get a little complicated.

As per Buffalo who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many other scenarios that could be played out but I like how we control our destiny while the Pats and Jets don't

ARRRRRRGGHH!! If it wasn't for that GD Farve prayer we'd have the 3 seed!!!!!!! Don't wanna even mention the stinkin' Texan game we HAD IN THE BAG!!!!! Still looks light years better than last year! Here's to a strong finish.....

You guys can never get over that, that play happened in the SECOND QUARTER!!!! We copntrolled that game for 3 1/2 qtrs, you had 2 1/2 qtrs to come back from that play. The better team won that day.

The Jets don't control their own destiny? How do we control our destiny, but the Jets don't control their's?

All the Jets have to do it win their 4 remaining games and they win the division. Saying they don't control their own destiny is basically saying they don't have any control over the week 17 game against us....

If we win out which would include beating the Jets, we do control our own destiny in saying that the Jets are in the same boat, but if we beat them thewe have control of the division.

Yea....I realize that. I was just commenting on the statement that flat out said the Jets don't control their own destiny.

Saying that a team controls their own destiny, means that THEIR actions, THEIR play can determine where they will end up. Clearly....the Jets control their own destiny. They don't have to depend on another team losing in order to win the division. They just eed to win their games.

The Pats on the other hand, do not control their own destiny. They could win all 4 games and still miss the playoffs. No matter how good the Pats do, they need help from other teams in order to make the postseason. Fins and Jets do not.

It's not mathematically impossible for us to win the entire AFC right? If the Titans lose all of their games.

If the Bills beat us, the Jets and the Pats, we could lose this week and still win the division. There are too many freaking scenarios. It will be week after 15 before it's clear.

Whether it happened in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter is irrelevant. It was a lucky play and was the difference in the score.

That is a little ridiculous to say that the was as irrelevant as you are implying. That play sucked the wind right out of the Phins and put our backs against they wall.

And you were lucky our K got hurt or we would have had those 6 points we got on that TD anyway.

You can say it sucked the wind out of you but so did our K missing a chip shot while he was hurt. If he makes it we are up 10-0 instead of 7-0 and the game is completely different. The better team won that day, the better team(so far) is in 1st place.

I garuntee if that happened to your team you would be complaining about it. If your kicker didn't get injured and made that fg and count a fg you wouldve kicked instead of throwing up a prayer then yes you would have 20. You can't assume he wouldve made that kick because if I remember right it was on a 4th and very long down. So if you take away your hailmary and if he misses the kick then you have 17 and we might take the game into OT and possibly win the toss and win the game.

I wouldn't have complained sicne the play happened so early and since you guys were lucky to have our K hurt. It wouldn't have been a FG difference(and a FG would have tied under your scenario) it still would have been a 6 pt difference. if Nugent isn't hurt he doesn't miss that chip shot FG then we don't have to go for it on 4th down w/ that prayer throw. Remember we missed the extra point so we just regained those 6 points we lose when Nugent got hurt. That also doesn't take into account the great field position you got as a result of our K getting hurt and knowing we had no threat of a FG which helped your D.

The hail mary didn't bother me but the Ref's in that game were horrible. On the hail mary, there was serious holding. Starks ran clear for Favre and there someone was pulling on the back of his jersey. Official was blind to it. Also, there was a questionable PI or two. It's not just against the Jets either. Refs have really called some phantom PI calls on us against the Pats and Rams too. If we are in postition to win the division, we will have to really beat the Jets convincingly or the Refs will decide it for sure. Ideally, the Jets go on a 3 game losing skid.

I guess both sides could go back and forth on it all day. If we wouldve converted that 4th down that got batted down in the endzone we wouldve got more points there. It was still a good game to watch though since we were coming off a 1-15 season and competed better then what most people thought we would. There's just too many scenarios to go through because not any team executes every play 100% of the time. I'm definately looking forward to this week 17 matchup no matter what our record is so we can finally get some revenge! Even though the Jets and Pats will find some way to blow it so we'll already have the division by then. HAHA!
