After all these additions is our line good enough?

Outside of Albert and Pouncy we have no other NFL starter so it is just unknown. Moreno the rb should help. Thats about it. From what I heard the NFL guard we picked up in FA is a step backwards from the guards we had last year.

Still need a true center and not a guard who changed positions because of his superior siblings credentials.

seriously? hes arguably a better center in pros, IDC what happened in college. hes a top 3 center

Yes, pass pro.

Just because pass pro was JaWuan James strong suit at the college level doesn't mean he walks into the NFL as a rookie and he's an above average pass protector. That's not a realistic expectation. He can be beaten. He was beaten at the college level on occasions, mostly due to mental lapses. He's going to be challenged by NFL players more than he was by Dee Ford, Dante Fowler, Michael Sam, Devin Taylor, etc. If he can be whipped by Markus Golden on a few occasions I'm sure as a rookie he'll be whipped by Mario Williams on a few occasions.

Here's the slate that this rookie will have to face at right tackle in 2014:

NWE: Rob Ninkovich
BUF: Mario Williams, Jerry Hughes
KAN: Justin Houston
OAK: Lamarr Woodley, Justin Tuck
GNB: Nick Perry, Mike Daniels, Mike Neal
CHI: Lamarr Houston, Shea McClellin
JAC: Jason Babin
SDG: Melvin Ingram, Kendall Reyes
DET: Kyle Van Noy, Jason Jones, Devin Taylor
BUF: Mario Williams, Jerry Hughes
DEN: Von Miller
NYJ: Calvin Pace, Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples
BAL: Elvis Dumervil, Pernell McPhee
NWE: Rob Ninkovich
MIN: Brian Robison, Scott Crichton
NYJ: Calvin Pace, Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples

Having to face the likes of Elvis Dumervil, Von Miller, Mario Williams, Lamarr Houston and Lamar Woodley in your rookie year...not exactly a cake walk. Let's try and remember that last year even top 5 picks like Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson struggled in pass pro for much of the year. So let's not suddenly pretend that just because JaWuan James profiled in college as a better pass protector than run blocker he's suddenly going to be above average when facing veteran NFL quarterback killers.

As for left guard Turner will be a rookie himself and a particularly RAW one, having to face guys like Kyle Williams (x2), Sheldon Richardson (x2), Nick Fairley, Malik Jackson, Chris Canty, Antonio Smith and Cory Liuget. What could go wrong? I'm assuming Billy Turner gets that job. If he doesn't we could be in even more trouble.

And the thing about that is Shelley Smith at right guard is not very good in pass pro from that position. He needs to have his inside shoulder protected by Mike Pouncey. Yet that leaves very little help for Billy Turner unless it comes from Branden Albert.

Yet Branden Albert himself is going to have his hands full with the likes of Demarcus Ware, Clay Matthews, Jerry Hughes, Dwight Freeney, Tamba Hali, Terrell Suggs, Chris Clemons, Jared Allen, Everson Griffen, Chandler Jones, Khalil Mack and Antwan Barnes. He'll have his hands full without having to babysit the rookie at left guard. Oh and that's assuming Albert stays healthy the whole year, which is a bad assumption since he's missed 9 games in the last two seasons. If he gets hurt, god help us if we're marching a backup onto the field to have to face the likes of Demarcus Ware or Clay Matthews, with a rookie left guard to his inside shoulder.

So yes...pass pro. I'm most concerned with pass pro.

This is especially the case if Joe Philbin's tendency to want to pass all the time rubs off on Bill Lazor the way it did Mike Sherman.

Well said, and agreed on all, other than Joekel being injured for the year. Your posts are missed. How is Bleacher working out?

I subscribe to the idea that the LT and RT aren't interchangeable positions without significant dropoff in play. Joeckel and Fisher proved that last year. I think James can be more successful than his predecessors Joeckel and Fisher because he is not making that switch from LT to RT.

Joeckel broke his ankle, and did not play.

Joeckel played in 5 games buddy. 4 of those games were at RT, where he struggled. That was the point I was making.

Gotcha. My point was that he did not have time to show imorovement in limitec play.
