The main reason for our troubles after the Marino era is that our organization has done next to NOTHING to try to replace him adequately with a competent QB.

Fiedler, Lucas, Griese, Huard, Rosenfels, Frerotte? :shakeno:

All stop-gap, backup QBs with limited talents. You want a reason for our mediocrity and lethargy on offense and THIS is the main reason. A good QB can mask a lot of problems on offense (as Marino did when he was our 1-man gang). We had no running or defense but a GREAT QB hid those problems pretty well for close to 17 years. A good QB rather than the below-average ones we've had will go a long way to improving this team greatly.

Randy Mueller says he plans on drafting a QB each and every draft. Good start. We'll eventually find one who CAN make the consistent deep throws and Linehan will be working with his next Daunte Culpepper. We just need time. This is only Saban's first year.

If I have 1 bone to pick with Saban it's that like Wannstedt, he didn't bring in a young QB to groom - just ANY QB who has a future. Let's face it, Feeley and Rosenfels have no future here. Gus is a nice back-up. But that's all he'll ever be.

Why didn't we draft 1 this year? Or bring in a young QB prospect? Feeley and Rosenfels are just wasted space.

Thoughts?

Amen brother. Ive been saying this for years and years. I thought we should have spent a high draft pick on one about 2-3 years BEFORE Marino retired and every year since. Think of all the wasted draft picks we've had and all the good to solid Qbs that have come into the league since Marino retired. Sickning.

Well, if Mueller and Saban really do start drafting a QB each and every year, that'll satisfy me. Mueller has a pretty good track record. In Saints camp 2000, he had Delholmme, Brooks, and Bulger.

I'll take that anytime.

Give Saban and company 3 seasons, not just 5 games. The future here is bright. The present is another story.

Sadly, we'll never have another Dan Marino. I'm just looking for a Brees, Roethlisberger, or Delholmme at this point.

Right On!!!

Good point...we need a QB worse than anything! I was at yesterday's game. I saw it first hand. Look for the Fins to finish 5-11 or 6-10. I' m just being a realist.

I think that a NFL matured Matt Lienart has the talent to be one of the greats.
Unfortunatley... the only way you could effectivley obtain Lienart is if you guys conciously lose every game from now on. He will go early in the draft next year. Too early for any of us to get him.

I agree in part; although, having Marino didn't get us a Superbowl, did it? Sure, with Marino in his prime and being placed in this team now, we'd be a solid threat.

Also, this is Saban's first year, you can't say "I blame him for not picking a younger QB." Give it time.

Good point... In time I think Saban will resolve the quaterback issue. Most importantly now is getting an unexprienced O-line to gel.

I say we trade with the Saints for Adrian McPherson and get Peerless Price from the Cowboys for 1 of our players and 1 of the 7th rounders we have and then just LET IT FLY the rest of the season!

What do we have to lose?

McPherson has a cannon of an arm and Peerless can get open deep. It'd be a perfect fit for this offense.

Of course this won't happen and each guy would have to learn the offense but it would give us fans something to have hope for. It'd be exciting to say the least.

What do you mean Wanny did nothing? He took a good hard look at Hasselbeck and Trent Green and, after careful observation, said "what throws can they make that Jay can't." :sidelol:

I'm not going to criticize Saban about our QB for at least another couple years. He couldn't fix everything this past offseason, and there was no franchise QB at the top of the draft to pick, so his hands were tied there. There are several options for next season, either through draft, trade or FA. W/ Mueller helping, I'm confident we'll be OK at QB by '07.
