I think that Shefter was overstepping and pulled the trigger too fast on the "Culpepper will be released" speculation.

Why? Because according to Cameron in the PC, he stated that he was not going to make a decision on Culpepper's status until after the QB camp in April.

Then, the fact that Green has agreed to restructure and lower his contract...means that he won't be making anymore than an incentive laden contract. Playing time would dictate how much he makes.

If DC shows he's ready at QB camp, then he's the guy and Green is the backup and he won't cost much more than Harrington would've.

Finally, I believe that MIA can't be "that" dumb to just release Culpepper knowing that Green is also coming off an injury and is a wee bit younger than Noah.

I would think that MIA would at the very least keep Culpepper...and if he isn't ready, start Green and you still have until the trading deadline in Oct to get something in return for DC when teams may/will have QB's injured and/or struggling that may give up something for Culpepper.

So, it's not sound logic for us to just go and release a potentially top 5 QB that we just gave up a 2nd round pick for without giving him a real chance at a comeback.

So, whoa there nelly to Shefter...

Also, it looks like Cameron is not going for Levi Brown in the draft.

but what do you want Cameron to say? "Oh Daunte will be cut once we sign another QB" He's not going to say that. And maybe Daunte will be in the thick of the battle but either way Cameron isn't going to come out and make any type of claim one way or another.

Shefter does occasionally get accurate rumors out in the media before the news breaks. But when you play with rumors, you can never be 100% accurate. That's why I don't even bother with rumors. Daunte will get every chance to start at QB this season. It will be up to his progress.

Also, Cameron let know a clue to why Mare is still on the roster. They actually paid him his $250,000 roster bonus. It is because they want to wait for June 1st so that his cap hit would be split into a prorated cap hit this year and the rest of his amoritized next season.

It makes so much sense. If we were to cut him prior to June 1st, we would only clear a mere $0.6mil. But by waiting, we would clear nearly $2mil.

Plus, they allow themselves the opportunity to find a trade partner in the process. Smart move.

Also, it looks like Cameron is not going for Levi Brown in the draft.

Brown, at his Pro Day workout March 22, chose to stand on his combine results... which sucked (5.4 40 and 1.8 10 yard split) and not workout. I've heard all the "speed doesn't matter at left tackle" comments, but this guy is scary slow to be a left tackle at the pro level and for him not to make the effort when he could be staring at a top ten selection just shows me he's a lazy sluggo. We should pass, especially at 9.

Nah, don't buy that. Cameron sounds very honest. Unlike Mr Saban. :D

Plus, it only makes the "only" sense. Why release him when we could potentially be releasing a Pro Bowl QB?

Remember, Green has agreed to restructure his contract into an incentive/playing time/performance laden contract.

Meaning, the issue that Shefter brought up of MIA not being willing to carry to "high priced" QB contracts is moot.

Because if Culpepper goes ahead and is given the chance to win the job and does win it...Green won't cost much more than a good backup would anyways.

There is a difference between outright lying and telling the truth while blowing your plans to the whole NFL. Find the happy median.

I dont think Cam would just up and lie (Yes Braylon you are our pick, NO, I am not going to Bama etc) but neither can Cam just come out and say CPep will/will not be on the team.

If he says Pep is not part of the future of this team, we lose draft leverage. So he says something ambiguous, neither truth nor fiction.

Think of it like politics. If you listen, no politician is for/against anything

I understand that, but that's not what Cameron stated. He stated that he "won't make that decision until after the QB camps".

So I believe him.

yeah right. watch some tape.

There's no point in getting rid of Culpepper this year.....unless he proves to be useless in training camp. A healthy Daunte is better than Trent Green at this point in his career.

yeah right. watch some tape.

I'm not basing this assessment on Levi's Pro Day's and so forth. I'm basing it on Cameron's statement about not interested in bending over backwards to find a "franchise" LT. He feels he can win without a franchise LT.

He stated that every teams wishes they had a franchise LT. But that you can win without one.

So that tells me that he isn't impressed enough with Brown to take him in the 1st round. Or that he is satisfied with Shelton or Carey at LT.

Also, now Michael Smith just reported on ESPN that Culpepper "wont" be released no matter who MIA brings in. He stated that whoever MIA brings in out of Green or Carr will merely "compete" with Culpepper for the starting spot.

Culpepper isn't going to be released as Shefter stupidly suggested.

I usually have high respect for Shefter's rumblings...but I think he was talking out of his arse that time.

Also, as I've said before, Green has agreed to restructure his contract into a playing time/performance based contract.

So if we bring him in and he doesn't beat out Culpepper...he won't cost anymore than a legit #2 QB.

The fact that he's even saying *anything* about CPep and status should say a lot. The very fact that such a comment is made, to use a tired cliche', speaks volumes.

To me it sounded like "Pep will get a shot to show if he is back, but we are not going to sit around and cross our fingers" It looks like they are going to bring in, or get from Lemon, competition and find a good QB.

I like that.

It also sounded like we are goin to draft some olineman.

Cam said they went 4-12 in San Diego one year, tossed out the line, added 2 rookies and went 12-4. When they draft those guys who knows.
