After signing either Manning/Flynn, trade up for Blackmon

Most people don't realize where Wes Wanker was actually drafted.

he was a scrap heap on the 'desperation looking for any opportunity" line

Right, and people also don't realize that we picked him up, not via a trade or a huge FA blockbuster, but because he was simply cut by the Boltz.

yeah right, you and others were on here saying how wes was going to be the next great WR right? lol excuse me while i laught at the hindsight 20 20

You're excused, mainly because I neither stated nor suggested that.

The point is that quality wide receivers are certainly worth high draft picks. New England, a team historically proficient at ACQUIRING draft picks, gave up their second and seventh round draft picks to get "Mr. Scrap Heap" from US.

How did THAT work out?

al this fighting over a WR that will not be there when we pick at 8 or 9?.....IF and I'll say it agasin, IF we were to move up it'd not be for a WR.

Ozzy rules!!

I have been thinking about the OP's scenario. I used to be all in for Blackmon. He is an elite talent, but there are other players that can help us too. We should stand pat and not over pay. At 8/9, we can get an impact player. It might be Richardson(upgrade over DT), Clarbourne(upgrade over SS), or Blackmon(beast opposite BM) depending on how things go. Three teams above us will probably take QB's. Another 2 teams will take a OT or DT. There is a great chance one of those guys will be there at 8/9. If those guys are gone, we can then trade down 10 spots and get 2nd tier playmakers or draft Tennehill, or a defensive player. Who knows, being a new staff, these guys might trade down repeatedly to accumulate picks. And try to get the great value picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Ireland has done this before. If the player they covet is not there at 8/9, I would not be surprised.
Another thing. The WCO offense is primarily a short to medium controlled passing game in which the Qb gets rid of the ball quickly. The deep throws happen during the occaisional play where there is a broken coverage or the WR beats his man deep. The main attribute for this style is quick feet, and quick accurate release and well as pre snap reads. Moore and Flynn can do this. I think moore has the better long ball. It will be interesting to see them compete if we can sign him. If we can sign him without GB compensation, I think we will.
Another QB that might be a sleeper is Osweiler. He is very tall (6'7") with a quick release, good vision, read defenses, and strong arm. He has pocket mobility, but not a scrambler. He has the basic tools, but he needs some training camps to get groomed. To me he is Ryan Mallet without the immaturity and social issues.
I would keep an eye out for us grabbing him in 3-4 round.
Just my .02

Nice write up. Just out of curiosity, if you think 3 teams ahead of us will probably go QB, and that Tannehill might be available to us later in the 1st round, who is the 3rd QB that would go before our pick at 8/9?

Defense still wins Super Bowls....granted New England's defense is not elite they are good when they need to be....and their team as a whole is solid....Miami needs a RT, S, CB, QB, TE, pass rusher....we are not join to fill that this off season, to many wholes....So in my humble opinion they should sign Flynn, draft a pass rusher to get pressure to the QB and give our secondary a little help....draft a TE in the second and a RT in the 3rd...then try to get lucky the rest of the draft....

That would also be an expensive luxury pick, similar to what Atlanta did with Jones......... that team needs alot of peices and another stud WR wasnt going to get them over the hump. It didn't even help Ryan or White all that much, yet. But the other needs still present themselves.

WR is not a weakness on this team. I expect Gates to make huge strides with an offseason to prepare.... remember he's extremely raw but has Elite talent !

High expectations for a wide receiver with 2 catches and 19 yards receiving

I know the OL is not a sexy pick but we need an elite player on that right side. We also need a pass rusher opposite Wake. I would be ok with either one of those picks.

Is it possible to get DeCastro and Fleener with a trade down?

Look what happened to the 49ers when they lost Iupati.

The only rookie WR to make a huge impact in the last decade was Aj Green.

The only one.

Are you being sarcastic or just incredibly ignorant? Julio Jones had a pretty big impact as well this very year. He had more touchdowns while having 100 less yards.

Doug Balwin was the leading receiver for the Seahawks while being a UDFA rookie THIS YEAR!

That's just THIS YEAR that have shown you to be hilariously wrong.

If we stay at 9, Id LOVE Trent Richardson. I know its not our biddest need, and a trade back would be a better option. Im just saying, IF we stay at 8/9 and hes still there.....You HAVE to take the best RB since AP. He makes everyone else better, especially the QB. Hed be a perfect fit with a new starter and great combo with Reggie Bush.
