After Two Games Do We Know Who The Miami Dolphins Are Or Will Be?

Tomorrow the Miami Dolphins will play their third preseason game. It seems as though Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the nod to start in what many teams term the “dress rehearsal” game for the season. The Dolphins are not like other teams.

When teams play the 4th preseason game, starters either sit or play one series before giving way to the rest of the team to finish out the game. The Dolphins may play their starters but for how long we don’t know.

The question, of course, is do we know anything about this Miami Dolphins team yet?

I will be in the minority but I feel like Miami showed it’s hand a little more on d in the second preseason game than the bucs did.

I think they'll show it even more as the pre-season progresses. There's a lot to learn on both sides of the ball.
 
Not showing our hand last year sucked so i guess if we're doing something different this year it can't be the worst idea
 
Yeah we will be a bottom 10 offense again for the probably 10th year in a row (mainly because of our oline). We will have a slightly below average defense with not enough play makers to carry the team. Unfortunately if preseason is a slight indication of the teams actual season then we r a 4-6 win team. And even that's being nice.
 
Yes - we know the coaching and game planning will be better.
Feels like these coaches do know what it takes to win.
Are we going to win this year or next ? It feels like we will be a consistence winner 3 years from now and I believe that what everyone wants.
 
It’s going to be a team held back by a porous O-line and injuries because the depth is paper thin yet again.

We know a little. Fewer penalties. Fewer blown assignments. Better preparation. Beyond that? Unknown
 
We know that our Achilles heels (OL and pass rusher) are still unsolved. We know that our QB will face a lot of adversity. We know the conversion to the Patriots' systems will take time, like maybe the first 4 games or so. We know our coach now is more discipline-oriented than the last one. We know that mental errors are less tolerated. And, we know there's zero continuity almost anywhere in our team right now. That means there will be a heavy adjustment period, but that we should finish the season a much better team than how we start it.

As for how good we'll be? Veterans coast through pre-season, so you're basically looking at rookies playing vanilla gameplans or guys who probably will not be starting anywhere in the NFL. Success and failure in those vanilla circumstances doesn't really indicate much outside of health. Teams that know they're going to be bad try harder to win preseason games … because they _need_ to build a winning mentality in a team that will be hard pressed to find wins in the regular season. So, often the preseason looks nothing like the regular season.
 
We will have a better idea after the 3rd preseason game, but yeah I think we're starting to see the basics of it.

They're gonna be an offense that runs the ball a whole lot on 1st down even if they don't gain much off it.

They're gonna be an offense that runs the ball out of 21-personnel with a true fullback, even if they don't gain much off it.

They're gonna be an offense that runs 3-WR groups a little less than average, and runs 2-TE and 2-RB groups a little more than average.

They're gonna be a defense that plays Dime situationally when you can expect 90% passing.

They're gonna be a defense that plays Base situationally when you can expect 2/3rds running.

They're gonna be a defense that gets their pass rush off stunts and tricks.

They're gonna be a defense that shifts situationally between Even fronts, Bear fronts, Extend fronts, and possibly Okie fronts.
 
After two game I can confidently state Miami will be a well coached team. A prepared team that will not look stupid on the field. And that will make me happy. This is a rebuild year and we finally have a foundation we can build on.
 
I think it's safe to assume we won't be very good at winning games this season. But we are instilling a culture change that will make itself evident by season's end.

We'll be disciplined. We'll be consistent. And we'll start to beat some good teams towards the end of the season.
We just don't have the talent up front this season to keep up with teams.
